TN Bill to remove restrictions on knife possession and carry

Recommended Posts

I hate to ask stupid questions, or things I should already know, but will this law allow fixed blade belt carry of knives over 4 inches?

Yes.

Simply does away with any knife carry laws at all. I suppose swords and sword canes and the like will be okay too. Maybe. There's still a ban on "any other implement for infliction of serious bodily injury or death that has no common lawful purpose", so dunno if that may rear its ugly head down the pike.

I'm going to get a nice Italian stiletto, switchblade, with at least a 5" blade! Why? Because they look so cool! It seems absurd that I can legally carry my .45 AND my .380 , yet am not to be trusted with a switchblade.

Exactly.  It'll take some nitwit doing something really stupid to create some case law to determine how exactly the law will be interpreted.

Well... we have plenty of nitwits AND plenty of misinterpreters.

Just try really hard not to chop anyone with it.  Even if they deserve it.  Shoot them instead.

By all means, get one.  Just don't wave it around while walking past a school.

Ho, ha, parry, dodge, spin, thrust...

Until the Governor signs it the change won't be law so we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves and start carrying with the full freedom the legislation will allow.

Hey, it's better than where we were last year. :D

Well, practically, we're in exactly same place as last year until it's a done deal. House hasn't even voted yet, right?

if it passes I will not order anything new,I'll just slip my old Case XX Folding Hunter in my back left pocket and be comfortable knowing it's finally legal to carry it

I thought all those were only 4" blades to begin with?  They make it larger sizes too?

OK..probably a dumb question, and it may well have already been addressed...

With passage and implementation, would this also remove restrictions against double edged knives? Like my Gerber Guardian?

We don't have a restriction on double edged knives to begin with.

Maybe you're referring to mention of "dagger" in school statute, which doesn't really matter since all knives are forbidden equally there.

I have this Espada. Much as I like larger knives, I think I won't EDC it, though:

I figure I'll get the shiny one with the aluminum frame. Good for opening sugar packets at Starbuck's. :)

24 hours away.  I don't know about you guys but I'm excited and anxious and nervous.

I always assume there's equal chance for dark at the end of the tunnel on any weapons legislation.
