TN Bill to remove restrictions on knife possession and carry

I can't tell you exactly what the judicial committe is in charge of. But basically they review the bill to ensure that it doesn't violate civil liberty issues or something along those lines.

*EDIT*  Here is the official description of the judicial committee.

Responsible for civil laws; criminal laws; judicial proceedings; apportionment of elected officials and governing bodies; executors, administrators, wills and divorce and other family matters; all matters relating to the courts, matters of court jurisdiction, and matters relating to judges, including retirement, compensation, expenses, personnel, facilities, etc.; municipal and juvenile courts and justices of the peace; clerks of court, and sheriffs and law enforcement officers; and all other matters not covered by any other standing committee

It will likely go to a few more committees before the full senate and then the governors desk.

If you want to learn, follow along at the link I've posted.

Tennessee Switchblade Ban Repeal Bill Voted Out of Judiciary Committee - CALL or EMAIL Your Senator TODAY! By a vote of 6-1-1, SB1771 was voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sen. Mike Bell, SB171 sponsor, expects the floor vote to to be held next week, possibly as soon as Monday. If you live, work or travel in Tennessee, please contact your Senator and ask them to support SB1771. You can find your Tennessee state legislators here: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/

Whether writing or calling, all that is necessary is to simply ask your Senator to vote in favor of SB1771. Keep it short and to the point.

SB1771 would repeal the antiquated ban on switchblade (automatic) knives and possession of knives over four inches in length "with intent to go armed," a vague law subject to abuse.

Fired emails out to ramsey and shipley...

Pretty fast response from one,

I will look at the legislation and take your thoughts and concerns into consideration. This, at first blush, sounds like a good law.

But don't necessarily share the confidence. - OS[/quote] Maybe I'm too much of an optimist...I thought it would pass last year. If a compromise has been reached with the Sheriff's Association maybe it will pass. Hopefully no new surprises... But don't you doubt everything OS?

Yep, a primary guiding principle that has been validated much more often than not.

Still just committees and subcommittees for now. I won't be pleasantly surprised until it's signed on the governors desk.

DCritter;

Thanks for your hard work, and thanks for the link setup. That made it incredibly easy to send out the e-mails...

There's no excuse not to send a few e-mails out folks.

I don't know where this will go either, but I'm hopeful...keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

Thanks to all who are emailing or calling.  Fact is, this is a process that by design is not easy and there are no guarantees.  Emails and calls are a very critical part of the process and do make a difference. This won't be the last time we ask you to call or email because it takes a strong showing of support at every step in the process.  With your strong support we will get this done!   Thanks!

just committees and subcommittees for now

And every one of those is a battleground that can decide this struggle.  Remember it was in a House committee last year that this bill had to be stripped of blade length and switchblade repeal so preemption could move forward.  Every subcommittee and committee decides your fate so we've got to press to get this one won.

Thanks to everyone who has called and emailed.   Those emails and calls do make a difference.  We are optimistic about our chances, but you can never have too many emails and calls in to members. You still have time to email today or call tomorrow.  If you haven't yet done so, please DO IT!!!!
