Any here have experience with the TacStar Weapons Light System 2000?

I ordered one from Optics Planet on sale for my 870 and it should be here Wednesday. There's no real data as far as extensive reviews for the product online. I did find out while ordering that TacStar did recently up grade it from a 75 lumen to a 150 lumen system.

So I finally got it. I ordered it from Optics Planet ebay store on sale for $77 with free shipping{normal $115ish}on 1/29/13 and it was shipped rather quickly. I received it on the day I posted in previous post when I thought I would have it. BUT, when I got it, it was missing both of the mounts. So I had to send the whole thing back vs them just sending me the mounts. Which they over nighted a return shipping label. They then used almost all of their 10 day turn around time to send it back out and I got it today. So it took from 1/29 to 2/26 to get it correctly with all the components. I don't blame Optics Planet but the time frame did suck.

So here are some pics then my first thoughts.

From what I gather TacStar recently went up on their lumen output from 75 to 150. If you shop for these anywhere the descriptions all still say 75 lumens. Only on TacStar's site does it say 150. The one I received as you can tell from the box is the 150. I asked Optics Planet about that before ordering and they assured I would get the 150. So if you're considering one don't let the descriptions fool you and you may want to ask specifically for product number 1081025. The body appears to be a nice heavy aluminum and feels very solid.

There is no permanent on function with the push button or the pressure pad. The only full on option you have is when the stock end cap is on and you twist it. This doesn't bother me as I don't want any light I have always on in a defensive situation. That's why I prefer the TLR's on my Glocks. Some reviews I watched complained about how the light was against the targets with a dark spot in the middle. That must have been on the 75 lumen versions because this fixed beam 150 is ubber bright with a solid spot. Compared to a 160 lumen TLR it would be hard to pick between the two which is brighter and throws the light further.

I got to play with the other light at night before sending it back and it will completely light things up across my 3/4 acre back yard. It lit the tree tops up very nice also. I will see if I can get a after dark picture tonight. Don't know how well any of my cams will pick it up but I'll try.

For a lower, mid grade weapon light system I give this two thumbs up. Even if I had paid full price I would be 100% satisfied with this light system.

I will also report back after putting some rounds down range with the light mounted to see how well it holds up. Hope this little review helps someone looking for a lower cost weapon light option.

I finally got to put some loads down range with the light mounted today. I ran 25 Sellier & Bellot 1oz slugs and 10 Winchester 3" 00 buck. The light still works flawlessly. The only issue was when I moved to the 3" Winchester after shooting the slugs. The light did move in the clamp but that may have been bad on my part. After I got home I moved the light and tightened down on the clamp much more than I did before. I have 100 more slugs and some more 00 to put through it next range trip.

We'll see how it goes.
