He's wrong that you can't sell it, though, at least by federal law. Says that at the first, then later acts like you can.

'Course, he's in Kali, so I'm sure that keeps him confused. :)

All over the internet. Just type in "AR15 lower jig" in google. Can be had for $90-200 bucks depending on the complexity of the jig. I have a mill and looked into this a while back. would seem super easy. But, I just don't need another lower....

Companies make HK416 80% lowers, and a bunch of cool stuff. Endless possibilities.

I've considered this, but unless you just like to build things you will spend more than you could get a stripped lower for. Most 80% lowers used to run $60-80, with some up over $100. The jig is another $60-100, depending on which you go with. By now, you could've bought a decent stripped lower; at least 3 months ago.

Once you do the machine work, assuming you don't bugger it up then you have a block of raw aluminum that needs to be engraved with whatever markings you want it to have, and then finished. Not sure what engraving would cost, but I'll ignore that since it's really not necessary. Having the lower Dura or Ceracoated would probably cost between $50-100 as well. In the end, you've probably spent at least $200 which would usually buy a nice stripped lower.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just pointing out some things to consider. I'd still like to do it. :)

In the end, you've probably spent at least $200, and have an item that you can't sell. If you ever need to sell the AR, you'll have to sell the individual parts, sans the lower receiver.

Not true bro, you can legally sell it, just like any other gun, as long as you are not "engaged in the business" of doing so.

Somehow, I missed that. Good to know!

I wonder where the line is drawn at 'engaged in the business'.

From 18 USC : 922 definitions:

(21) The term “engaged in the business” means—
(A) as applied to a manufacturer of firearms, a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to manufacturing firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the sale or distribution of the firearms manufactured;

( C ) as applied to a dealer in firearms, as defined in section 921 (a)(11)(A), a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms;
(D) as applied to a dealer in firearms, as defined in section 921 (a)(11)( B), a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to engaging in such activity as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional repairs of firearms, or who occasionally fits special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms

(11) The term “dealer” means
(A) any person engaged in the business of selling firearms at wholesale or retail,
( B )any person engaged in the business of repairing firearms or of making or fitting special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms, or

In short, it's their call, if they think they can prove it. Or even if they can't, if for whatever reason they just want to make your life miserable. Really.
