So, have we got any classic car, muscle car, and street rod guys on here? I just started a project myself on a '74 Nova thats going to get a TPI fuel injection swap shortly. If anyone else on here has Nova's let me know. Maybe we can swap parts or let the others know about parts we see. My true love is first Gen camaro's and firebirds, but they're a bit out of my budget right now...lol. Post pictures of your muscle car or drag cars too if you've got 'em.

i like them but i really dont have the money to put into one.

may i ask why you are going TBI on it? personally i would either stay carb'd to keep the classic style or go with a MPFI for an update. like a LS1 or similar motor

Not TBI.....TPI......from an IROC Camaro. My nova was originally a 6 cyl, I'm swapping the 8cyl in complete with the tuned port on it. There are a ton of performance upgrades for the TPI engine, and its pretty economical. Rumor is I can used the same motor mounts too, so it saves a little hastle.

i take it you already have the motor? i just typed it wrong i know about the TPI, 2nd gen motor style from gm. there is much more parts for the 3rd gen, ls1 motors than the 2nd gen and they make more power with better fuel economy, check out ls1tech . com for info on the 3rd gen motors guys making 500rwhp and getting 25mpghwy, in a latemodel camaro but its just an example

I'm very familiar with the LS1 engine, I used to have a 2001 Trans Am NHRA edition. They are fantastic engines, make great power, with only a few negatives. But one of the BIG negatives is price. This is a budget project, and the price of a LS1 with a 4L60e or a 6spd would have blown my entire budget. For a quality LS1 and tranny you're talking a minimum of $3000 and that doesn't include potential wiring harness ($700), computer, computer reprogramming, motor mounts, transmission mounts, exhaust issues, etc. I have a complete turnkey TPI motor and transmission (700r4), including wiring harness, computer (needs reprogrammed PROM $65) for $600. Big difference.

you could get a ls1 and 60e cheaper than $3000 easily. but im sure it would nickel and dime you to death getting everything hooked up in the nova

I've never come across an LS1 complete with transmission less than $2K in good running condition. I've not seen one locally less than $2500 and it needed a computer and wiring harness. If I did, I would be seriously interested. But regardless given all the costs associate with the LS1 vs the TPI motor, for a budget daily driver, the TPI is a much better deal in my opinion. Another disadvantage to me in regards to the piston slap LS1 engines develop. I don't like piston slap, and thought is normal on LS series engine, I prefer to avoid it. Personally, I like the LT1 engines better for a street driver because of the low end power. I loved my LS1 powerband, but it didn't really fire up until 3500-4000rpm.

Pretty much the same thing for me. Just about anything mechanical is interesting to me, though my real first love is aviation.

FYI, my mother has a 67 Firebird 400 sitting in her garage. I don't have any digital photos of it, though, or I'd share them.

Dave-I absolutely LOVE C3s. One day, I shall own a ~69 model... I'm more a fan of the chrome-bumper versions than the rubbernoses, but it's still the overall look that turns me on.. those bulging fenders.. mama Mia.

I like it.

The '36 is either an older partial restoration or just in pretty good shape. I've been doing little things like replacing weatherstripping and rubber off and on - it runs and drives well, but I spend 10 months of the year at sea. It doesn't get much exercise.

have you checked pull-a-part?

it's a national junkyard franchise, with a Knoxville location. they have flat rate pricing on everything. for example:

8 CYL ENGINE - $131.20 with warranty - $29.58 core charge - $20.30

now this V-8 could be be a crappy 305, or a built 502. it could be a 283 or a new LS1, makes no difference.

There was a place like that near here I lived in Raleigh. I got a replacement manual tranny for my truck for $75. :screwy:

Yeah, I have a friend that spends alot of time mining at pull-a-part.....they never have anything worth a damn performance wise. Its good for pieces and parts, or non-performance engines. Nobody sells good cars to them for $250, they sell them or part 'em out themselves.

Most of this info is correct, but I have a personal friend who works at the location in Nashville, and the quality performance parts rarely see the lot. If those are usable, they are removed before the car get taken to the lot. If employees don't want them, they certian people who they call. Regular Joe's rarely see them.

Other locations may not be run the very same way, but as for the Nashville location, that's how they do things.

The 36 was a beautiful car. I am very partial to 30's model autos. The lines and layouts were great. I loved the interiors nearly as much as the exterior. Wonderful selection. And for many who don't know these cars are still around and many can be found for decent prices.

Yeah, it is a nice ride. If you're interested, I'm open to selling - as long as I'm out here I can't drive it or play with my other toys anyway, and it'd cut many months off my mortgage. I'm looking for 12K, which is several thousand less than I have in it.
