Wife's new PT111

Well, while I was working on a gun cabinet, my wife was out shopping.  She's been wanting a Bersa Thunder .380 for a while, so she was supposed to head to Spring Hill Armory to pick one up.

 

I've been pushing her to get a 9mm instead, but she hasn't seen one she liked as much as the Bersa.  She came home with this instead:

 

 

Taurus Millenium PT111 in 9mm.  Trigger seems a little bit squishy, but other than that it seems to be a great gun.  CHMR was closed today but I'll try to review it once she can get it to the range.  The good news is,  I won't have to worry about getting brass and dies for reloading .380 and she'll have the extra oomph of 9mm on her hip if she needs it.  The best part is I finally get my 1911CS back!

 

I didn't see any reviews of it on here - anybody have any experience with them?

My sister just bought one last week. Haven't been to the range yet either. Seems like a nice gun.

I've had a PT145 for years.  Great shooting gun.

I've owned several of them. I found them easy to shoot, accurate, and carried well.

 

Didn't have any issues with any of the 3. They digested anything I ran in them. I still have a Pt111 and a Pt145. Good little guns. Good combination of size, caliber, and managable recoil. Good low to mid-price range handguns.

 

Why did I sell 2 of them? Why do any of us sell? Found something else I wanted, of course.

 

You may get some negative comments on them; but shoot it for awhile and then judge for yourself.

Nice looking gun. I'm impressed she went and bought it on her own. Wish I could get my wife to that point.

I've had one for about a year.  My overall opinion is that it's a good pistol for the price point. 

 

When I first got it I ran a fair variety of ammunition (all 115 gr FMJ), even non-brass, through it and it ate everything.  I decided I wanted a bigger caliber for carry and can't say how it acts with hollow points.  I've read that the stock sights were designed for 124 gr and that they tend to shoot low with 115 gr and that was consistent with my experience.  Easy to field strip and reassemble.  A notch more difficult than a Glock but definitely easier than say a typical 1911.  Important for me as I'm not at all mechanically inclined.  The recoil's not too bad for a light gun and unless your wife has wrist problems (as does mine) I suspect she'll be fine with it.  

 

The trigger is really the only nit I might pick.  The trigger is a bit heavy (which doesn't particularly bother me).  The larger issue to me is the length of the trigger pull.  Until I got into the rhythm it sometimes seemed like I was pulling forever and then finally it went bang.  To each his own.

Good Choice!  I had the PT145 mil pro for a while, but it was very picky on ammo.

 

Be sure to shoot what ever HD load you use on a regular basis.

I have the PT111 Mill Pro as well. I have run a few hundred rounds thru it without incident. Spent some time at the range this past Saturday and put another couple hundred thru it and I'm getting more accurate with it each time. Cleaning is pretty simple once you've done it a couple of times. This is my carry piece.

Interesting.  Mine doesn't seem to care.  But regardless, definitely verify the ammo works.
