Well, this is my first FN. I have been looking at these for some time and took the plunge two months ago after renting one at the local range. I also own a SIG, S&W and a Ruger. This gun has moved to the front of the line as my daily carry piece. It shoots that well and after 1000 rounds, has been 100% reliable.

That being said here is my range report.

At the range:

This is a very accurate weapon. I hit the point of aim and grouped very well with both 165 gr. FMJ and 180 gr. JHP's shooting from an unsupported weaver stance. Felt recoil was very pleasant and it didn't seem to have the same "sharpness" I have felt from XD's and Sig 40's. Not one failure to feed, fire or eject. The trigger on these pistols is outstanding. Smooth and light. The double action first pull is not heavy at all and the single action second pull is magical! This pistol points naturally, it feels well balanced for a polymer gun, and feels natural in my hand with the curved back-strap. I have relatively small hands but didn't like the feel of the flat back-strap.

After range:

I field stripped the pistol and examined all the internals. Currently there is no sign of any abnormal wear. I am seeing the slight scrape on the left underside of the slide that has been mentioned in other forums (right under the 'P' in the FNP40 on the left side of the slide), but I'm not very concerned about it as it is only a minor cosmetic issue. Cleaning this pistol is a cinch and it is extremely simple to break down. You can field strip this weapon in about 4 seconds. I am very impressed with the good design in this regard. Way to go FN!

Functionality:

This gun has the option to reverse the mag release for you lefties out there. The decocker is ambidextrous as well. (Both a non-issue for me). Two different back straps were included, one flat and one curved. Also included were three 14 round mags and a trigger lock. I have been very impressed with the overall fit and finish of this firearm. As a member of htttp://www.fnforum.net I can attest that there are many who have had very positive experiences with FN's customer service as well. :)

Great shooter. A bit large and heavy to carry

Nice... I'm nuts over the FNP's. I think they are really going to gain in popularity when more people get the chance to shoot them.

The .45 is a great shooter, but it's a big'un!:koolaid:
