From the liberal Tennessean rag:

Two men tried to rob an Old Hickory Sonic restaurant, but an assistant manager pulled out a gun and fired shots, causing the suspects to flee. Police believe that one or both of the suspects was wounded.

Metro police Capt. Michele Donegan said that at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday, two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, went inside the Sonic at 1410 Robinson Road, in Old Hickory. Several employees were at the restaurant, and numerous customers were at the tables outside and at the drive-ups. The armed suspect showed the gun. The assistant manager then pulled out a gun and fired several shots, Donegan said. The two men fled out the door without firing. Police are still looking for them.

After police arrived on the scene, they followed a blood trail leading across the parking and ending at a car wash. Police think that there was probably a third person with a car that they fled in. Police searched the wooded area behind the car wash using the canine and helicopter units to be sure.

No employees or customers were hurt.

The assistant manager has a carry permit, according to police.

Police are following up on some leads in the incident, which happened in the Hermitage Precinct.

Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available early Friday morning. "It happened very quickly ... It was extremely fast," Donegan said.

Good guy one +1

Just another thought on this. The vermin now know he is armed, they will not be taken by surprise next time.

Or will they choose another location in the hopes the workers there aren't armed since they know they are at this place?

Nice thing about Sonic is they are independently owned. The "Manager" may well have been the owner as well.

it will amaze me if the manager does not get fired for carrying the weapon. i worked for a major fast food chain in the south that had a policy against handguns. but being the assistant manager, i took bank deposits at night and i carried every night. about an hour before closing, i would go to my car and retrieve my handgun then go about my business at closing and no one was any wiser.

i looked at it from the standpoint its better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. there are tons of jobs out there, but only one life. the night i had a drunk beat in a lexan drive thru window made me realize that this petty amount of money was not worth someone else's crack rock hit.

+1 !!!

If they come back for revenge, I guess that man will test his mettle again! I dont think they will though...there was a blood trail...hopefully the scumbag quietly expires somewhere without undue mess.

we have a sonic here in Kingsport and a slew of other restaraunts...I see a homeless man that walks constantly. he's always welcome to a free burger at any one of the restaraunts along 11w and frequently you see him sitting quietly eating his burger and fries.

were those men hungry I'm sure they would have been fed, if they acted in a civil manner. as it is, they're not worth the salt it took to make them and I dearly hope they're either caught and prosecuted or they expire on their own.

This book demonstrates that the bad guys will find a safer way to get drug money.

This action just made the comunity safer. Even for those who would disarm us.

If this guy gets fired, and I find out, I'll stop eating at Sonics.

The thugs will learn to only rob restaurants that have bars.

They didn't follow Naifeh's "No self-defense in restaurants that sells drinks" guidelines.

hopefully they bled out some where. Court costs are to high for these guys, besides it makes a much happier ending.

I think we should have a TGO meet and greet at this Sonic just to show our support of the Assitant Managers right to defend his and the lives of his employees. Just a thought.

It makes me feel good that the robbers were unsuccessful and got what they deserved. I hate people who think that they can take what they want when they want it. Three cheers for the manager.

I'm in. I'm just a few miles away, and I sure could go for a Route 44 Cherry Limeade. Hell, a Super Sonic Cheeseburger with mayo doesn't sound too shabby either. Now that I think about it, I think I'll take an order of onion rings while I'm at it.:bowrofl:

Lets do it. I'm free both Friday and Saturday nights. Someone pick a night.

Friday night is best for me.

Once the date is set I will put the word out and try to get some more people to come as well.

Look like they got one of them at least...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police said an employee at an Old Hickory restaurant retaliated against a would-be robber, and Thursday morning the suspect was scheduled to be in court.

A preliminary hearing was slated for Marquez Lamont Johnson.

Investigators said last Thursday Johnson and another man barged into the Sonic on Robinson Road. Police said they believe Johnson had a gun, but the restaurant manager pulled out his own weapon and opened fire. The manager shot Johnson in the arm and hand.

Thursday morning, Johnson was behind bars and recovering from his wounds.
