Two of the most iconic and least nutritious symbols of American consumerism may be about to join in commercial wedlock.

A deal is near for two private-equity shops to buy Twinkie and other cake brands from Hostess, the American baker that declared bankruptcy last fall, according to the Wall Street Journal. The buyers are Apollo Global Management, the giant buyout firm, and C. Dean Metropoulos, best known for owning Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.

Pabst and Twinkies both enjoy loyal customers, who value low-cost and low-fuss snacks, and ironic followers, who see the brands as the edible equivalent of trucker hats. In that sense, Twinkies and PBR may be the quintessential American lunch.

That is full of 37 kinds of win.

That being said, soon if you want a Twinkie you will have to go to a dive bar full of bearded guys who wear scarves in the summer. Edited by Chucktshoes

Damn hipsters ruin everything. First vinyls, then aviator sunglasses, then beards, then Pabst. Is nothing safe from these A-holes?

When I started drinking PBR it was $7.05 a 12er.  About a year later the hipsters caught on to it and it was $12.25, WITHIN A YEAR!

Not only did PBR prices go up, but they changed the formula. It went to swill when they changed the packaging a year or so ago.

That's why I'm drinking Yeungling.

I have a hard time believing this. It tastes the same to me. I just had a tall boy yesterday actually.

I quit drinking, but I vividly recall the change. I only drank the bottles, and when the packaging changed the beer changed. It got lighter, more hoppy, and less flavor.

I would drive clear across town to find the 'old' PBR, until I couldn't find it anywhere anymore.

Hipsters drink PBR now? I don't know if that is funny or sad. At any rate, I never understood why PBR always got a bad rap. I've always enjoyed compared to the taste of beer flavored water such as Coors and Bud, or skunk flavored water such as Natti Ice or Busch. PBR is the way to go.

Don't be hatin' on my Busch, you're just jealous because it's:

At least that's what we told the rich kids in college.
