I'm sure the AR-15 lower manufacturers are working 3 shifts.  In a few months we are going to be awash in AR-15's.  Same with MagPul.  I bet they are making PMAGs by the million.

 

I wonder... will the 2013 models of guns be 'not as good' ?  I just imagined seeing a metal worker on this 18th hour of grinding metal be a little tired.  If they are pushing that stuff as fast as they can... it's got to hurt quality somewhere right?!

I'm not too worried. I imagine manufacturers are offering overtime to employees right now to try and meet demand. I think that in the long run those who had patience will be rewarded for it. I might go and get a new AR if the market gets flooded enough to lower the prices significantly. I'd hate to have there be a ban in the next decade and not have one for my son to have when he's old enough.

Most guns and parts are made by machines anymore. And those machines do not get tired or have a bad day. If anything I can see quality rising as those companies that had humans doing the work switch over to robots. I know it sucks for some workers but they will get replaced with a more technical worker. And another benefit is the costs generally go down once a company automates. That is why AR lowers were so cheap.

 

Having a supply of ammunition is not about fighting. It is about surviving for me. If things go south I will use my guns to put food on the table. And if you have to shoot 5 times a day to put food on the table that 10,000 round stockpile will only last 5 or so years. And if you only have 1,000 rounds that is less than 7 months.

 

I have said it before and I will say it again. We, as gun owners, forget about those who screwed us over. We complain and say we will never buy from them again but when they have a sale we always do. Those that are gouging us right now do not need us right now to stay in business. But they do need us during normal times. Yes the market dictates what is a fair selling price but some are buying up all they stock from other retailers to create a false supply shortage. And they could be selling just as fast as Walmart but because we can't see it piled on a shelf somewhere we think it is in short supply. And when we buy at inflated prices it only encourages the seller to continue.

 

I have seen people who deal in ammunition do it during normal times too. They have a single box on the table and you ask about the price. They always say it is their last box and they need X dollars for it. And you think it is fair because it is the only box he has left. But when you pull out the money they open a box or lift up a sheet to grab a box from his pile of hundreds. There are several dealers at the shows that do this and I will never deal with them again.

 

At some point the distributors and manufacturers are going to see they are loosing out on the profits the dealers are making. Then they will increase their prices. And when that happens the dealers are going to probably loose more in profits than if they had left the pricing the way it was originally and just sold in quantity. But in the end, regards of who is increasing their price, the end user is the one who pays. And we will continue to pay because the prices increases we are seeing now will set a higher minimum price.

Most of the prices on Armslist were redonkulous before the Great December Panic. Every day someone would post a "custom" AR with a bunch of Tapco crap on a crappy lower and call it a super tactical craptical, and list it for $2,000, when a new rifle with all the Crapco stuff would be under a grand. I remember sending an offer to a guy on a bolt gun which he had put a bunch of crap on that I didn't want and he was genuinely offended by my offer. Folks seem to think you can put a fancy dress on a five dollar hooker and that will increase her value, when in reality it is still wore out and ugly under all that fancy dressing.

I think you are right on point to many people trying to make a quick buck off the uneducated public. i saw a post the other day about a grandfather that had got his granddaughter into shooting 22lr but could not shoot now because there is no ammo. i have a grandson that loves to shoot as well and i was fortunate to have ammo from times past. if i could find the post i would give him ammo for his grand child. maybe the people that is trying to gouge people will get theirs in the end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree... just like my buddy...he just dropped 100 bucks on a glock 21 mag with a vector extension ...I was like WHAT you're cray cray... i WILL NOT buy something over priced... heck i wouldn't even buy something at a store if i found it online cheaper... I can justify saving 20 bucks and waiting a week to get it...

The problem is in order to meet demand CNC machines are pushed to the limit on tool speeds, feed rates, etc. This leads to QC problems and there will be some off spec stuff that makes it to market because with the extreme demand manufacturers are going to be reluctant to scrap anything.

Most ammo suppliers are back ordered for almost a year from what I have been hearing for the dealers. If you want high cap mags I would buy them if you can afford them.

They had some bird and slugs, I guess I just assumed they sold buck too due to all the empty slots on the shelf.

Never seen anything but 00 buck. Have bought a lot of that through the years, the Remington 15 round packs.

 

They were still stocking this before the panic.
