Rossi .357/.44 lever guns at Walmart

Walmart on Market St. in Johnson City has Rossi M92s in .357 (blue, 20") and .44(16" stainless) in stock as of tonight.  Also some other rifle calibers and a .410 in stock. 

 

They did have one last blue 16" .357, but it came home with me.  :)

 

Just thought some of you local to me might like to know since it's so stinkin' hard to find these things in handgun calibers right now.  The one on Brownsmill didn't have any at all.  The clerk at Market St. said they got them to fill the case where the ARs would ordinarily be, but once this round is gone, they don't expect to get any more.  He didn't know if the other Walmarts in the state will have them. :shrug:

$439.00+Tax/NICS for the .357.  $479, I think, for the stainless .44.

Yeah, I'm pumped about it.  Been looking for a "trapper" style lever in .357 for a while, and haven't seen a one locally for months, except for 1 Remlin that had some finish issues.  Can't wait to get this one to the range.  I want to put a leather wrap on the stock and lever and cowboy it up some.  :D  Love my lever guns.

I was looking for either a .357 or .44 lever rifle not too long ago.  I ended up getting a used Marlin (older gun with microgroove rifling) in .44 because that was the first one I found when I was in a position to get it.  I was kind of leaning toward the .357 (but they are about as plentiful as hen's teeth around here - especially on the used market) so I did a lot of 'research' and had decided that, if I had a choice, I wanted the 16 inch barrel if I went with a .357.  Partly, that was because I like the way they feel but partly it was because of the .357 test results at Ballistics by the Inch.  Their results indicate that, with factory ammuntion, 16 inches of tube seems to be the 'sweet spot' - velocity starts going down after that (this interested me because that pretty much means 'loaded for handguns' because, while I have a reloading setup, I had no desire to load differently for the rifle than for my revolver.)

I picked up a stainless Rossi 92 with 16 inch barrel in .45 Long Colt the other day.  I carried it out back and shot some of my heavy loaded 325 grain WFN LBT bullets through it.  It pushes back hard with those but will surely kill anything in our Tennessee woods.  It's kind of like a .45-70 lite.  These same loads from a Colt Anaconda I had years ago would penetrate 12 inches of seasoned oak.  With the extra barrel length I suppose I will have to test again.  With lighter loads this thing will make an excellent home defense weapon.  Maybe Obama won't consider it an assault weapon at least with the SAMMI spec loads.  With the heavy loads John Linebaugh told me about, Obama might consider it an assault weapon.
