Reloading

I have not reloaded since 1970ish and will be reloading pistol.  Would you recommed going into the progressive systems or go back to basics? Also which is one of the better systems?

if you still got your old equipment i would start back with it to get back in the swing.  then later i move up to a dillon system.

If you are content producing only 50rds a hour stick with a single stage press. My opinion is that I have superior quality control since I get so many opportunities to inspect between stages. On the flip side I would hate to think I was needing to turn out 1000+ rounds a month with a single stage.

If you're truly on the fence, consider a turret press. Best of both worlds...remove the auto-index rod and you have a single-stage press with all your dies already mounted in the turret. It's never gonna be as fast as a progressive, but it'll be MUCH cheaper.

My friend loads over 1,000 rounds per week on a Lee O or C frame.

I am a big fan of the turret press as well.   As someone said, if you still have your gear, it has not gone bad so use what you have and buy more if you NEED it.   Turrets really shine on pistol as you do not have to take the brass off the press from start to end.  Necked (a few pistols, but rare) cases have to come off to be trimmed and make the turret less useful, but for like 9mm,  spent (clean) case goes on and a ready to shoot round comes off, in just a few seconds.

I am a Dillion reloader user. I have two 550B's and they are great and warranty excellant. A part breaks send them e-mail or call and you get a new part in mail very fast.

Same thing with the Hornady Lock n Load AP.

Look man, the basic's haven't changed. The biggest thing would be the consumable supplies and maybe the equipment brands but your still doing the same basic thing.

Back when I was getting started, you were the one that convinced me that the turret press was the way to go. I have been re-stating that advice ever since and am still convinced you were right.

 

I still use it every week for .45s, but upgraded to a Dillon for 9mm due to volume. Both presses are fun to use.

I never reloaded before. Went with a dillon square deal B. I have reloaded 1K or 1m so far with great results.
Just plinking rounds but no issues. Runs thru ever gun I have tried. Simple and easy to use and can crank them out.
Don't believe I would like doing it a step at a time.
