AR15

Just took an AR15 in trade for air compressor.  Owner and I went to Oak Ridge to fire and weapon worked fine.  I am looking for a gun smith who can go through this make sure all is ok and tell me who built what parts in the Lenoir City area.  Only thing I know for sure is that lower receiver is a Roggio out of N.C.

Mine is built on a Roggio. Here is what i have been able to find out about them. They are out of business. Their quality control was crap and they let a lot of bad receivers get out. They were hit or miss. The good ones are supposedly high quality. If you got a good one then it is a good one. The problems I know of are improperly aligned take down pins, buffer tube threads being tapped crooked (should be obvious if the buffer tube sticks out crooked), and in my case the buffer tube threads weren't cut deep enough. Luckily mine was straight and the take down pin holes were good so all I had to do was run a tap through the buffer tube threads. If everything is working and the take down pins line up and move in/out correctly then most likely it is a good one. But still not a bad idea for a smith to check it out. I am not from that part of the state so I don't know of any smiths up that way. Hope this helps.

If it shoots I would not worry about it. People tend to over complicate things especially when it comes to AR's.

I do not want it going to pieces in my face so I need to have it checked out completely which obviously is going to cost some change but so be it.

I wouldn't spend money having it checked by a gunsmith.  most anyone here familiar with ARs could look at it and tell you if its good to go.  

 

if everything fits tight, i.e. barrel, barrel nut, grip, stock, then Id say its fine.  These things are like big erector sets, if everything is tight it should shoot

If it was going to go to pieces it would have when you fired it the first time. 99.9% of the kabooms with an AR are related to improper hand loads.

There is nothing short of a improper hand load, improper ammunition or a barrel obstruction that will cause a catostrophic failure.

If the barrel is loose it will still fire but accuracy will suck. If the headspace is so loose it is dangerous the gun just won't fire. If it does fire it will destroy the brass but the bolt will contain the pressures unless it is an improper hand load. It is impossible to assemble the bolt incorrectly to a point it is dangerous, it just won't fire if not assembled correctly. If the gas port is off the gun just won't cycle.

I bought 3 stripped upper/lower sets from Roggio a couple years ago when I lived in NC.  Couldn't beat the price, the lowers were $75 a piece, but when I went to build them only one of the three sets actually worked out.  Both of the bad sets had misaligned takedown pins.  Their customer service was as bad as their machining.  I went to their shop and nagged them for several weeks before they would make it right.  Finally ended up with two new sets along with a couple bolt assemblies and two lower parts kits.  One of the bolts had locking lugs that were misaligned.....would not fit in any chamber I tried it in.  The lower parts kits were supposedly made in Israel and were actually pretty nice.  From what I've been able to tell from Roggio stuff......if you can get it put together, or in your case if it's already together, it's probably going to be ok.  Most of their issues are noticed during assembly.  Have not heard of and highly doubt it would happen that it will blow up in your face due to the specific issues most people have had with Roggio components.

 

As for your interest in having a gunsmith be able to tell you who made each part on the gun I would say good luck with that.  There are some specific markings on some parts that might distinguish the manufacturere, but as a whole they can be hard to narrow down to who made them and when.....and realistically it doesn't matter if the gun has been fired and is working.
