Molina 1911 acting up

Recommended Posts

I've got a 45 Molina 1911 with an Ed Brown barrel, recoil buffer installed, Main spring and rod replaced as well. Shoots very very accurate but it's ejecting shells all over the place. Some off to the side or straight up, others smack your forehead. Most have a slap mark where they are hitting the slide. There's also a small area of powder residue on the spent casings, always in the same area... It feeds ammo fine, and never a FTE.

Any suggestion on what the issue could be or has anyone ever run into this before?

have you tried a few brands of ammo in it?  Sounds like an ammo issue, possibly.

Burnt cases were loaded too lightly to expand enough to prevent a bit of gas blowback, most of the time(?).   That is in sync with it hitting the brass on the way out (lightly loaded ammo again).

If that is the case, you can get a lighter recoil spring for just a few dollars.  Like $10 tops, probably less, if you want to shoot light loads on a regular basis.  Just do not forget to put the original back in for factory ammo, which will beat it up if you have the light spring installed!

If your not getting F2F I would say its not likely the ammo. I'd look over the extractor and ensure you have correct tension. It's also possible that its clocking in the channel.
