John hit that one on the head!

And I highly doubt they were showing the full capabilities, my guess is this thing could actually read license plates from that altitude.

I guess they'll see me flipping them the bird now.

Put that camera on this UAV and you have ultra-high resolution video on a UAV that can stay airborne for 5 years.

Big Brother truly is watching. biggrin.gif

They even made reference to the fact that with the right UAV, it could stay airborne for years!  Imagine several hundred of these over the USA.  You couldn't piss off the side of the road without big brother watching

One way to fight back is for millions of out-of-shape ugly old geezers to take up the habit of daily backyard nude sunbathing.

1 Million Tb a day. That's seriously going to limit how much this is used. At some point, anyway.

I doubt it. There have been some amazing advancements in massive data storage technology. It's too expensive for people, or even most companies to afford, but the gov't doesn't play by those rules. I suspect there is some 3D optical storage stuff in use somewhere. We're talking about petabytes (a thousand terabytes) being stored on something the size of a CD, or smaller. IBM had something in their labs back in the 1980s that could store the library of congress on layers of Mylar (or silicon, I can't recall) the size of a sugar cube and barely be touching the capacity of the thing. Not so impressive today with 128GB of storage in our phones, but this was back when 512KB was considered a lot.

With nanotechnology, who knows what they're working with now. I expect us to soon be referring to terabytes the way we now refer to megabytes. Petabytes or exabytes will be the new "Big" storage number, to then be followed by zettabytes and yottabytes.

Make no mistake...they wouldn't have picked up a new camera with no place to store their vacation photos.

You think they could see me making a gun trade in a parking lot?

They will be able to do the background check for you.

LOL. Missed that the first time...

Argus? As in Filtch? The caretaker and snitch of Hogwarts?

The original reference probably lies in greek mythology, or maybe they borrowed it from some earlier or contemporary tribe who didn't write or whose writings were destroyed? There was also an Argus camera brand from the 1930's, made rangefinder 35mm cameras, and some other company uses the trademark for inexpensive digital cameras nowadays. Wonder if the second-generation Argus camera company that makes the consumer digital cameras could collect big bucks for trademark infringement on "argus camera"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argus_Panoptes

In Greek mythologyArgus Panoptes (Ἄργος Πανόπτης) or Argos, guardian of the heifer-nymph Io and son of Arestor,[1] was a primordial giant whose epithet, "Panoptes", "all-seeing", led to his being described with multiple, often one hundred, eyes.

Heifer-nymph Io and son of Arestor. Sounds like a full-figured lass married to a particularly grumpy small-town deputy who likes to run speed traps. :)
