I just received notification from TNDOS that my permit was issued yesterday and it's at the print farm now. They stated it should be about 10 business days to receive... Sounds like I'm approved, thank you to everyone for the helpful advise here... I never would have even attempted to get my permit if it wasn't for this forum, thanks again...

Congrats!

It's the least I could do after the help... Great relief to hear the news today... Thanks again.

That's awesome, congrats!

Didn't know about the Wally Walk, I've been carrying for a whopping 3 days now. I've carried weapons on combat ops but this is a whole new thing for me. Edited by Romad7

Congrats. Most of all on your sobriety. Been 9 years here. I had to wait due to the restriction. I'm glad I did.

So the good news is that since I am reading this WAY late, I got to see the answer to the question. Congrats man, not as much on the HCP but that other little thing you did!

I am confused on this wording of the law as well.  I got a dui in 2009.  I applied for my hcp last week.  Does this mean I will be OK?  I read it as that "and" that none such  is conjunctive meaning it has to be 2 dui's with one occuring in the past 5 years and that having one dui does not disqualify you even if it is in the past 5 years.  Anyone have a explanation?  Thanks

  • The applicant has not been convicted of the offense of driving under the influence of an intoxicant in this or any other State two (2) or more times within ten (10) years from the date of application and that none of such convictions has occurred within five (5) years from the date of application or renewal.

You'll be good.  As long as you don't have another one besides the 1 you got in '09, it'll go through.

Thanks!  Only the one, will never get another one.    Thanks for the quick reply.    I actually had my hcp but after the dui in 09 I let it expire.  I just got curious after I read the wording on the application, it can be misleading.

Yup, sure can be.  That "and" is the key

I was nervous about it, looks like a ton of people on the web, lawyers included are saying that if you have one dui in the last 5 years you cannot obtain a hcp.   I guess it was misleading to them as well.  :)
