Recycle Mosin Ammo Crate

Recommended Posts

So I just purchased my first crate of surplus mosin ammo, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the wood crate and the spam cans after I use up all the ammo...

Right now, all I can come up with is turning the wood crate into a shelf/cabinet to store my gun cleaning supplies in, over top of my workbench.
And maybe use the spam cans as empty brass containers for my 9mm and 45ACP, until I can start reloading.

So does anybody else have any clever ways to reuse these items? I hate to throw them out, especially being historical pieces

Depending on how you open that can, the edges may require some attention before you do anything else with it. If you use the opener that comes with it, they're pretty jagged.

I use the crates to store my reloading supplies (except powder/primers).  and then I put gun cleaning stuff, accessories/etc. on top on it.

Here's what I did last night...

Simple and practical, I like it  I ordered some Mosin ammo as well and it's scheduled to be here tomorrow.  I'll have to keep an eye out here and see if anyone else has suggestions on what to do with it.

Hey, and that way you always know where the spam can opener is! I like that...

I drilled two small holes and hot glued in magnets that way its held in the same place it was originally shipped in, but now it's easy to get in and out

Out of the half dozen of so crates of mosin food, I've never had a crate that looked that good. Most of mine were beat to heck and coming apart or had nasty fiberboard lids. I'm jealous.

I do have a Mosin 91/30 crate that is scheduled to become a coffee table though. (I bought 20 rifles for the crate)

The coffee table idea is awesome, but I have neither the money, nor the space for one....   As for the ammo crate I got... it was from midwayusa
