H&K USP Compact

A family member showed me a H&K USP Compact today. He has had it for a while, and it's chambered in .357 SIG. He also has a seperate .40S&W barrel for it. He says that you can just drop it in, and she's ready to shoot .40. Anyone have any experiences with the USP compact? I am trying to decide if I want to trade for it? Suggestions? Also, what would be a reasonable price? It looks almost brand new. Thanks, guys.

Great pistol. Yes, it's that easy to swap. I have seen them drop dramatically in price over the past few years. The mags (even before the potential ban) are very expensive. What you are getting is a truly remarkable handling weapon. Is it the safety/decocker version or just the decokcer version?

One of the few non 1911's that you can carry cocked and locked. It's a great gun.

I've had the .357 sig USP Compact. It was incredibly inaccurate. But I'd saynif he has the barrel for .40 then I would jump on it! I'd value it around $700 or more bc of the barrel. The .357 Sig version is actually a little rarer.

Compact is a relative term with the usp, its still pretty big. If you plan to carry it, id make sure you can conceal it.

I have a Stainless .45 USP Compact and have nothing but good things to say about it Yes it's a biy chunky in the slide but no more than alot of the polymer guns out there. It's been totally reliable, super accurate, and with the right holster not a problem to carry. It's built like a tank. Only bad part is mags are expensive. Especially in .45.But if you liked the gun go for it. I'm sure you'll love it. Mine is a VAR. 1 so I can do cocked and locked or DA/SA. Leaves lots of options.

I am not sure about the decocker/safety. He told me carries it sometimes, but it doesn't look like it. It has like zero slide wear. This may be a stupid question, but if I swap out the .357 barrel for the .40 barrel, can I still use the same mag? I thought about trading for it, but I wouldn't want to carry it since I have my G26 for everyday carry duty. I read that the .357 SIG is only available in the compact version. What would you guys give for it? It looks to be in great shape. Thanks for the info guys.

I also forgot to mention that it had Trijicon sights. Were these factory installed, or added later? Are they nite sights?

Yes the 40S&W mags work with 357sig too

Mags are expensive? You can get them now for $39.99, which is very reasonable in the current climate.

Sigs Pro series can be found for several hundreds less and is very comparable in features. The rail is specific to H&K's and their accessories, the mags are pricey, and the mag release is different. I wouldn't buy one today but they are great guns.

Yup, the mag release takes some getting used to. I find the most comfortable way on my USP .45 is to use the middle finger on my right hand (I shoot right). And you're spot on with the rail.

Well I am looking to trade with him. He has the gun, 2 mags, a holster, the spare .40 barrel, and 10 boxes of .357 fmj. Seems like the .357 SIG ammo was $30/box last time I saw any.

You could get lucky on mags since it's not a 45. They take the same mags as the HK45C so those are hard to find at times.  Mags run about $50ish but they are great guns.

I have carried a USPc in .357sig for about 12 years now. I really like it. I also bought an HK .40sw barrel for mind as well.

Simple drop in. I consider mine very accurate.

 

Now that I have the .40sw barrel I like the .357sig even more. Now much of a deference in recoil but it just feels different. The .357sig ammo is higher (normally $30 a box) unless you buy in bulk from Georgia Arms... then it is about the same as 40sw.

 

I believe they are very well made. While there are guns out now that are lighter and thinner now, I still really like my USPc.

 

*Warning... there are documented dangers to owning a weapon in .357sig. ;P

I had a .40 compact I traded and a .45 compact I also traded. Loved both of them. Have a full size .40 now that I wont get rid of. The compacts are a little bulky like people have said. I used a crossbread IWB and didn't think it was horrible. All 3 of my HK's have been amazingly accurate, all DA/SA, and been flawless. 

 

Funny enough I traded my Sig P226 DAK for this full size USP .40 (I say its funny because I just got done reading a sig post)

I like mine alot!  I first got it for CC but decided I wanted to go smaller, but it's such a well made gun that I've held on to it.

I love the uspc stainless guns, too bad they don't make them any more
