You know what would make me fell better? (Small Rant)

Recommended Posts

It would make me feel better if companies like CCI, Winchester, Hornady, etc would at least acknowledge that there is a huge demand and they are stepping up production to meet demand and that they are not going to use this as an excuse to creep prices up.   If you visit many of these companies websites as as if nothing is going on.  It would be comforting (not to mention it would dispel some conspiracy nuts) to know that they are shipping product...

After a visit to Sportsman's Warehouse today it's rather depressing.  I've never seen shelves so bare.  It's bad when they are almost completely out of reloading manuals not to mention primers, powder, and bullets.  I'm a little pissed off that I spent a lot of money on gear to start reloading and now I can't find powder, primers, and bullets.

Well if I own a business and there is a temporary surge in demand due to a shooting I'm not going to be building a new building, staffing, and buying new equipment. That just doesn't make any sense because the demand will even up and then I'm stuck with a ton of debt, useless equipment, and bills needing to be paid. What does that mean? I'm probably going to have start charging more to make ends meet.

What would be better is if stores would put a limit on amount a customer could buy so that other dealers won't walk in, buy all the ammo, and then go flip it for 3x the price. Also it would help if people wouldn't go out and buy ammo in calibers for guns they don't own.

I don't expect for them to build new facilities or hire a thousands of employees.   Just let us know they are doing what they can to get stuff out the door.  Hell an occasional note on Facebook like "Hey we just sent out another 500,000 cases" would let us know that stuff is flowing to the consumer.   Right now we don't know if they are still running just 8x5 or are they running extra shifts to meet demand.

I went to the store where I get most of my reloading supplies, and all 3 items I wanted, they didn't have. The guy working there that I talked to, said that they usually ship it to customers as soon as it comes in. He said, primers, powder, and some caliber bullets, he can't keep on the shelves. People are freaking out! Its been this way on and off ever since Nobama came in.

I have yo agree with the op, public relations and perception means a lot to the loyalists these says.

From the CCI website....

CCI AMMUNITION WORKING TO MEET CURRENT DEMAND.

ATK has achieved its market leadership position in the ammunition industry by delivering innovation and quality. We continue to work seven days a week, making multiple daily shipments to meet the current demand and deliver quality products to our customers

I think ATK owns most of them. Edited by DaveTN

Correct. Alliant tech (atk) does. Federal, lake city, the list goes on and on. I used to live next to their Plymouth Minnesota building, even went to shadow their engineers for a day when that's what I was going to school for. There is no doubt in my mind they are busting their butts to keep up the best they can.

On a side not. That place is amazing. Underground tank round testing, met the designer of the old OICW and the dude that designs their kinetic energy rounds. Man. Talk about the best day ever.

I'd like to not see all the new products in the gun magazines each month until the gun and ammo manufacturers can actually put their old familiar offerings on the dealers' shelf.

YES!!!

Nothing irritates me more than a company that makes an item sure to be in high demand and does not make sure that an adequate number are ready for initial delivery.  Yes, I know that it takes some expenditure of cash up front to do that.  But, I believe that it makes buyers more certain that a company will be there later to support that product.

KelTec makes some excellent products.  But their production rate is WAY behind demand, and has been for years.  Yet, they keep churning out new products KNOWING that they won't be able to produce enough.  They currently have wait lists for the RFB, PMR-30, and KSG.  The RFB was first offered for sale at the 2007 SHOT show.  The first rifle shipped in March 2009.  They STILL have not caught up to demand.  THAT is a classic example of poor marketing.

1)  Do not offer a product until it is ready for sale.  All testing and user test have been done and production is running

2)  Do not take deposits until production has started.

3)  Do not ship until you have a significant number ready for customers and production is ramped up.

4)  Do not offer another high-demand product until you have met demand for previous products and can meet requirements 1, 2, and 3 for the new one.

I do not buy a KelTec product until it has been in user hands for at least a year.  This is because they ship before they have finished refinement, and have to constantly stop production to incorporate improvements.  Kind of like how the Germans built Panther tanks in WWII.  Too soon into combat, and no two tanks had exactly the same parts!  They never had enough, and they had a reputation for unreliability.

Y'all are tough customers. Those new products were in development way before things got stupid. New product development budgets are usually based on a launch date. The public went crazy, which is pretty much out of their control. If they ramp their production up to max capacity, that's all I can ask of them.

OR... If you wish hard enough, on a falling star, they might personally call you and tell you each time a new bullet gets its wings!

C'mon dude, really?  These companies aren't just sitting around with their thumbs up their butts.
