It shouldn't have any change in importation until the Senate ratifies it, but we know the State Department will do whatever they can get away with

without advise and consent from Congress. They always seem to, anyway.
Yeah, I was just thinking that it may have an effect on countries who sign it and their abilities to export to us. Speaking in regard to whatever restrictions those foreign governments decide to put on themselves. Maybe no more Croatian made pistols, ya know?
If they can I think the Feds will try to block the importation of firearms and it has absolutely nothing to do with anything the UN does.
Yeah, this is the most probable course of action.

One thing to keep in mind is that many nations supporting this treaty are countries engulfed in civil war, lawlessness, and genocide.  They have a different motive and perspective than we do in the United States.  They see it as a way to control the illegal weapons trade that supplies criminal warlords and makes it difficult to establish law and order.   This is also the reason I have heard for support from American politicians who do support it.  Does that mean they perceive it as a side opportunity to restrict gun ownership in the United States?  Perhaps.

Regardless, the treaty must be ratified by the US Senate and treaties are subordinate to the US Constitution as they relate to American citizens.  I don't think it will be ratified, just like how the United States has refused to sign onto the treaty related to the International Criminal Court.

Keep in mind that until the treaty is ratified it is considered to be in effect if it its signed by the president or other official.
Kinda like when the Kyoto treaty was signed by Clinton. The us abided by the mandates until it was finalized.
Technically Obama could sign on and it world be enforced until comes rejected it. It could actually never be ratified and thus be in effect, while waiting. Kinda like a recess appointment.
