Guys i feel your "GAS" pains and have contacted my congressmen with your concerns. They have assured me they will begin hearings on the matter asap and promised a 1950's gas can beside every mower in the near future.

Yeah Right!!!!!!

I have not shopped for gas cans in years.

Do they not sell plastic five gallon containers anymore?  I have a couple of fives, a three and a couple of one gallon plastic containers for gas.  They work great.

I gotta get out more often.

They still sell plastic 5 gal cans, but a while back the EPA or someone required a change in the way the spouts work.  I think they have to be ventless, so now the "cheaper" cans have really crappy spouts that leak everywhere.

I coughed up for the eagle safety cans at home. Metal with attached funnel worth every penny over the new plastic BS, I figure at $3+ a gallon it wouldn't take too many spills to make up the difference.

That thing looks like an otherwise good gas can ruined by marrying it to a Go-Girl.

Yeah, it looks funny, but works very well for my mowers and equipment. The funnel is removable if it goes against your fashion sense.  Available here.

Those things are nuts. Mine still has the vent on it, but the crazy cap has a safety catch to release before the gas will flow out.

Kind of like "Craftsman" safety features on their tools and lawnmower. First thing I start to disable.

That safety gas can is the last in the rotation. Might be relegated to Kerosene before long.

Glad I'm not the only one that cusses like a sailor when I use the new crap.

Mike. They still make 5 gallon plastic ones, but the spouts and lids all have "childproof" and "spillproof" "features."

I drill a hole and put a tire valve on the back. You take the cap off to let air inwhen pouring the gas but can cap it to keep fumes from getting out.

Are you a member on lawnsite?

I have read about several people doing that over there.

I use a two liter pepsi bottle which has been cut in half as a funnel.  Helps with inherent leaks in fuel cans.

Probably breaking some law by using it

Just wait all you guys that have the old plastic cans with a vent. Once the lid breaks they are done. With the new ventless design they have changed the threads on the lids where they won't screw on an old can properly, so I have about 4 1-gallon gas cans with no spouts. I use them basically for mixed gas and still have one spout that will work on the older cans. We all know what happens when the government gets involved in something.

I'm sure we both are, Mike. :D

That is a wonderful, clever idea!!!

I did the drill a hole and stick a screw in it for air release.

Every forum I read at a regular basis,  (tractor, woodworking, carpentry, guns)  has had similar rants about these stupid gas cans.    We (tree huggers, enviro wackos, etc.) sure know how to outsmart ourselves.

I'm in that boat, too. Most of them have improvised caps and spouts.
