Here's the auto-message Corker is sending out in response to people contacting his office on 2a legislation:

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office regarding the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary and the issue of gun control. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.

Like any parent, I was heartbroken to hear about this tragedy, and like other Tennesseans, I have the victims and families in my thoughts and prayers. Given such an unspeakable act of violence perpetrated on children, it's appropriate to talk about what we're doing to keep our communities safe, recognizing the issues involved are complex, especially when it comes to identifying and acting upon the warning signs that always seem to precede these incidents.

While I have always believed that it is critical to ensure that firearms are kept out of the hands of those who have lost their constitutional right to firearm possession, the right to own firearms for shooting, hunting, and self-protection is important to me as a Tennessean and as an American. Should legislation dealing with our Second Amendment rights come before the Senate, I will certainly take your concerns into consideration. I also wanted to share the steps I have taken to protect our Second Amendment rights in the attached "Policy Points" document.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me.

As a hunter and sportsman, Senator Bob Corker is a strong advocate for the Second Amendment. He believes the Constitution provides law abiding citizens the freedom to keep and bear arms.

 Support for an Individual Right.

Senator Corker supports the recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions striking down DC and Chicago gun laws and affirming that gun ownership is an individual right protected throughout our country.

 Support for Restoring the Second Amendment. Senator Corker was one of the original Cosponsors of S.1001, a 2007 bill to restore Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia. At that time, the citizens of Washington DC were required to register all privately owned firearms and possession of a handgun within the Washington DC city limits was prohibited. This bill would have allowed the ownership of a firearm, including a handgun, in Washington DC.

 Prohibit funding for groups who infringe on the Second Amendment. Senator Corker voted for an amendment that would prohibit any funding to foreign organizations that infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of lawful American citizens.

 Support for Gun Manufacturers and Dealers. Senator Corker was a Cosponsor of the BATFE Reform and Firearms Modernization Act and the

Firearms Fairness and Affordability Act. These two bills would ease several of the unnecessary and unfair burdens of complying with federal licensing and tax laws for firearm manufacturers and dealers.

 Support for Conceal and Carry Laws. Senator Corker voted for an amendment that supports state conceal and carry laws by allowing people to carry concealed weapons in National Parks and Refuges if state laws allow it. He also voted for an amendment that would allow those with a permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state to do so in another state in accordance with the laws of that state.

 Support for National Shooting Sports Foundation. Senator Corker supported the nomination of a National Shooting Sports Foundation representative to be appointed to the Defense Trade Advisory Group to represent the interests of small arms manufacturers. This appointment will protect the interests of small arms manufactures within this group.

I got the same thing from Corker.

I got this from my Congressman....

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about the potential introduction of gun control legislation. I truly appreciate having the benefit of your views on this important issue.

It is hard to imagine anything more horrifying than the tragic shooting that occurred this past December at Sandy Hook Elementary School. As a parent with three school age children of my own, I join many other concerned parents in recognizing the need to create a safer learning environment in our schools. I believe that it is of the utmost importance for us to enact sensible measures to protect our children. However, I agree with a majority of Tennesseans in expressing my concern that the Obama administration is using this catastrophic event as a way to limit our Second Amendment rights.

President Obama has stated on numerous occasions that he is willing to bypass Congress through the use of executive orders to achieve his gun control objectives. Should the President resort to legislating through executive order, not only would he be circumventing Congress; but ultimately, he would be trivializing the will of the American people and the constitutionally protected democratic process in which they chose to participate.

After the Sandy Hook tragedy, Americans deserve a comprehensive and effective strategy to protect their families from such senseless acts. Unfortunately, the President has chosen to advance a political agenda that in the end will have little impact on stemming gun violence while further eroding the rights of law-abiding citizens. As a proud supporter of our Second Amendment, I am prepared to use any legal means to protect these constitutional rights from infringement. As gun control legislation is introduced into the 113th Congress, rest assured that I intend to oppose any legislative effort that will infringe upon our constitutionally guaranteed rights defined in the Second Amendment.

It is an honor and a privilege representing you and all of Tennessee's Fourth Congressional District. Please let me know if you have additional comments or question on this or any other legislative matter.

Sincerely,

Scott DesJarlais
Member of Congress

Same thing for me. It's funny, I got a "this is not my official response" email from him AND fincher yesterday at the same exact time and recieved this email AND fincher's canned response today at the same time. What's up with that?

"Corker's office response" = Whatever will get him re-elected.

I keep getting a canned response from Diane Black. I've received it so many times today my spam filter is sending them right to the spam folder.

Edited because I... never mind.

Received from state Sen. Mark Geen. A stand up guy. I voted for him last election, and plan on doing the same in the future. Sir I assure you I will support all legislation to protect our second amendment rights. I firmly believe the second amendment was written as the final checks and balances on the government. It's authors had just a few years before used their weapons to overthrow a tyrannical government. Their intent is clear. There should be no limitations. Thanks, Mark

an auto-response would be more acceptable if they were clear like this one.

I surmise he's not too hot on the idea of owning them to overthrow a corrupt and tyrannical government. :)
