IDPA in East TN?

I'm interested in attending an IDPA event with the hopes of getting involved. Are there any events in the East TN region? Particularly east of Knoxville. I don't mind traveling a little bit, but my schedule makes long trips or overnight trips impractical.

TAC2 in Greenville does competitions, I think they do IDPA.

As mentioned, we shoot IDPA at ORSA on the first Saturday of every month.  Typically 6-7 stages, lots of shooters, lots of good fun.  Also at ORSA:

 

Second Saturday - Cowboys

Third Saturday - USPSA

Sunday following USPSA - 3 Gun

Fourth Saturday - Steel Challenge

 

Its a great range, well worth the drive.

I'm about an hour from the Range as well. Im on the other end of Roane county and it's well worth the trip.  Cleveland also have IDPA on the 3rd Saturday but that would be about 2 hours for ya.

Thanks for all the intel. I will definitely be visiting both ORSA ant TAC2. I'm TDY on the 2nd but will try to be at ORSA in March. I should get back just in time for TAC2 on the 9th.

Nope. I'm planning on attending one as a spectator to take it all in and see what I will need to "play." I'm not expecting to be ultra competitive  I just want the practical application and trigger time.

All you need is a serviceable pistol or revolver, a holster, and some magazines/speed loaders. Don't even need pouches, but I would suggest them. 

 

When I first started, I knew no one who shot IDPA matches. I showed up with some basic gear, and the folks there made sure I knew what to do and was safe doing it. 

 

Instead of spectating, bring your gear and shoot. It was quite some time before I started doing anything other than getting my hits, let alone being competitive. If you can draw without dropping the gun and can keep your finger off the trigger when it's not supposed to be there, you're ready to shoot a match. I've seen many new shooters, let alone new to IDPA, show up and shoot and have a good time. 

 

Either way, if you know you're going to be there, let me know, and I'll make sure to catch up to you during the match. If you decide to shoot it, I'll squad with you so you're not flying solo.

Awesome. That would be great. Is there a rough number on amount of ammo I will need?

At ORSA I usually shoot about 100 rounds, but I always bring about 150-200 just in case I have to do a reshoot or have some other problems.

Around 100 rds. a match. TAC2 shoots a first and second gun, basically a morning and afternoon match. I usually take around 300 rds. but rarely shoot more than 100 a match. Sometimes stage round counts might run a little higher, or you might have to reshoot a stage or whatever, so it's better to have too much than not enough.

So if I want to bring two different guns, I can say....shoot 9mm in the morning and then shoot my .45 in the afternoon?

Yes, that's pretty much what it's set up for. I personally shoot Stock Service Pistol in both matches, but many people mix it up, shooting in a different division in each match.
