Remington 700 SPS-V?

I'm looking for a varmint gun as a range toy for not a huge amount of money. I've been eyeing the Savage 12 (love the trigger, hate the stock) and the Remington 700 SPS-V.

Oddly enough the Savage 12 is a bit harder to find in Nashville where as i can pick up a Remington at Dicks in about 30 minutes.

I'm aware that the Remington's barrel isnt free floating but that the gun can be upgraded like any other 700.

Does anyone have any experience with these rifles?

Rifle will be in .223

You would be better off getting the savage! If you don't like the stock, go to Sharp Shooters Supply (All things Savage!) and you can look at their stocks (which I like). The advantage of the Savage over the Remington is tatamount!

First, it is a true switch barrel, you do not have to have a gunsmith set it up that way, like you would have to with the Remington.

Second, You can change it from a .223, to a 308 bolt face to a magnum bolt face using the same action. All this can be done with some simple tools and no need for a gunsmith.

Third, Savage now makes the F-Class target model in 6BR which as a bench gun, paper puncher, out to 1000 yards fun gun, the best buy running right now!

I agree. After reading more i'm thinking on going with a Savage 12BVSS in .223.

Now, to find someone that stocks em. I'll be heading up to G&L Thursday... i hope they have one. :)

6 BR is a tad bit more than i want. There isnt hardly anywhere in this state to shoot 1000 yards.

There are two 1000 yard ranges that I know of in the state of Tenn.. one is in Tullahoma and the other is in Oak Ridge. There is one 500 yard range that I know of and that is in Chattanooga. There is a 600 yard range in west Tenn somewhere near Memphis.. but not sure where it is.
