Isn't it amazing how long, if ever, it takes a rumor to die

A week or so ago we had a thread on Walmart no longer selling ammo.  It was suspected to be a rumor at the time.  Recently it was confirmed to be such since Walmart has publically stated that there has been no change to their ammo policy, and they will continue selling it as it becomes available.

As I was sitting in my lab today, our purchasing agent came to me and told me a story about his father-in-law trying to purchase ammo from a local Walmart the other day and was told that they were out and they were not allowed to sell anymore due to some federal decree.  I had to explain to him that that was not the case, and the Walmart employee did not know what they were talking about.

Two things:  Walmart should do a better job making sure their employees are informed, but it really doesn't help if that employee has an agenda or they trying to create hysteria.  Second, I find it amazing how ill-informed people are that when they hear a rumor they don't bother investigating to check it's veracity, but instead run with it like it is gospel truth.

During this battle we are fighting I feel that it is incumbent upon us to correct or educate people when they are promoting rumors or incorrect (even partially incorrect) information.  All of us, outside of those selling, hate the current market on all things related to firearms.  The rumor mill and misinformation is part of what is driving the frenzy and high prices.  If we participate in it, all we are doing is prolonging the current market.

I always fact check anything I run across anymore and I'll do it at multiple sites to make sure.

Walmart is in business to sell stuff, lots of it. I could imagine a NY City store not carrying firearm accessories, but not any that has any sort of customer demand.

I learned a long, long time ago not to listen to what comes out of a Walmart employee's mouth.  I have heard very crack pot theory and conspiracy scenario that has ever been on the internet from someone manning the ammo counter at that place.

The Walmart employees follow rumors as well. I was at one right after they removed all the rifles that were black and semi auto from the case. I asked why and they said they were now outlawed. I walked over to the ammo looking for 22 and 223. And was told that was illegal to sell because those black rifles they put away shot those calibers.

The Walmart worker said they did in fact have AR's in the back but are refusing to sell them.

I had heard the rumor, kinda took it as such as when I tried to fact check it I keep getting articles dated like March last year.

However I had not heard that walmart made the statement about no recent changes.  I guess I missed that.

Either way, they don't have ammo currently.

I was able to buy 1 box of 9mm target rounds at Walmart today. They have signs up "Only 1 box per caliber, per customer, per day."

The whole store was just 'off'. Hardly any coffee, there was a lot of empty shelf space in the food section and in the paper goods aisle. Even the beer stock was low! I was trying to put my finger on what was causing the run on staples. It looked like a bus load of Preper's went though it.
