Steps to get a FFL

Yea they werent just coming because of me or a few others I think the guy you are talking about is the main reason they came. I dont know him very well but if he had been out of the equation Id say they would have never came.

You're probably right. He did mention that he thought a gun store owner had it out for him or something. In a smaller market like Smithinville, I can see it upsetting his [store owner] business. From what I understand, the ATF also had a talk with the guy who was only selling firearms accessories. I think it was mostly magazines and such. No (or not many) firearms. I can see where they would have been upset with him as well, because he was buying quantities of new product, then selling it for a profit.

Either way, it's probably best to distance yourself from them, and attempt to follow the law to the best of your abilities.

Out of curiosity, do you lose the $200(I think this is the correct amount) if your application gets denied? I am pretty sure you don't.

If you don't lose the $200 then whats the problem with him applying?

Either he gets his FFL and pays $200, or he gets denied and loses nothing but the little time it takes to fill out the forms...

The process is a little more complicated than that. There are interviews with the ATF, background checks, local zoning investigations, all sorts of fun stuff.

Still not going to lose anything but some time.

we dont have zoning in my county so that would probably help a little and you get the two hundred back if your form is denied. I dont think you meet with ATF until your form has been accepted. But you do have to go to the Sheriffs dept. and get your fingerprints made to send off to the FBI.

If you are denied, you will receive your 200.00 back.

I will also tell you that if it looks like you are going to be denied, the agent will most likely advise you to "withdraw your application" rather than wait on a final decision from the ATF.

The reason behind this is to protect the applicant. One of the questions on application for a FFL is, "...have you ever been denied a FFL in the past..."

If you know you are going to be denied, withdraw! That way you are good to go should you wish to apply again in the future.

No offense but the only people who can tell me if Im within the law are the ATF or a court.

The ATF will tell you what they think at the moment. Ask 3 different agents and you will get different answers.

what about home gunsmthing as a hobby and selling the products to support the hobby? It doesn't seem That any of the FFL classes cover that spicifically but it would be a pain to have to find a FFl to have receivers shiped to all the time.

Gunsmithing falls under category 01 FFL (dealer or gunsmith).

He'd be wasting the ATF's time.
