1. You compared boxes...I buy in cases, where quantity discounts and shipping are usually a better deal than TN sales tax. ...

Yeppers, yer exactly right.

For 1000 rounds:

WalMart: 18.52 x 10 boxes/100 + tax = 202.33

AimSurplus: 20 boxes/50 at 8.25 + shipping = 179.63

(.25/box off for 20 or more and shipping is not much more than for small buy, as you say)

I was thinking too small :-)

Just some thoughts on this steel-cased Barnaul "Brown Bear" 5.56mm/.223...

I just got back from a 5 day Patrol Rifle Instructor School put on by a middle TN Sheriff's Office.

During this class I shot 450 rounds of this stuff (in addition to other ammo). It was clean, accurate, and I didn't experience a single failure.

I cannot say this about Wolf. To date, everyone who has showed up to our Defensive Carbine class with an AR shooting Wolf has had to switch ammo in order to finish the class.

I'll be buying more Barnaul. BTW, this same ammo is sold at Academy Sports under the name "Monarch."

I was wondering if "Monarch" was made by someone else. I bought some 9mm and it seemed to work well and it was $6.79 a box (50) when I bought it 3 or 4 months ago.
