snow to water conversion?

So I am cooking a frozen dinner on the grill in the snow because our power is out. The bag said add one tablespoon of water but I decided to use snow instead. Anyone know how much snow that would be? ;)

depends, white snow or yellow snow.

 

 

 

5:1 ratio may occur in which it takes 5 inches of snow to produce 1 inch of liquid equivalent.

At the risk of sounding like a total nerd... One cup of water, at 40 degrees, weights 8.34oz. 8.340z of snow = 1 cup of water.

Good to know. I added about 1/4 cup of snow and it turned out pretty good. At least it was a warm meal on a night without any power

Volume doesn't work because 1 inch of rain equals anywhere from about 3 inches to 15 inches of snow, depending on the wetness of the snow.

This. That's why I said it has to be weighed. It's the same reason bakers weigh their flour instead of measuring volume.

ummmm....   Why don't you melt the snow until you fill a measuring cup/table spoon to the required amount?
