Savage 10 .308 Optic Suggestions ....

Recommended Posts

Picked up a used Savage 10 .308 bolt action rifle yesterday from D&T!  Came with a 3-9x bushnell scope that I plan to move to my M&P 15-22 or Ruger 10/22.

With that said, the savage will than be naked, and I'll be in the market for a new scope.  Not looking to make this the ultimate sniper rifle, just something that can reach out and touch 200-300 yards :)

Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.  Will be used for mainly plinking/target shooting & eventually hunting :)

Thanks!

That list is going to be LONG.  3 to 9 X will get you out there, then pick em in your price point.  Leupold VX-2, Vortex, Burris Fullfield II, Nikon M-308!!

Righty ... What would YOU run ?!?!?!?

From my limited research, the Bushnell likely won't hold zero running on a .308.  So I figured, I'd move it to the .22, and get better quality glass on the Savage :)

Eh? I actually like the Bushnell Banner line of scopes, IMHO they are pretty decent optics for how inexpensive they are, especially the Dusk to Dawn series.

For 200-300yds you shouldn't need to swap it out, unless of course you just want something different.

Hey Richard,

Thanks!  I figured, I should probably put some better quality glass on the savage, and relegate the cheaper bushnell scope to a .22 :)

I think I've decided.  After 6 hours of research, I think I've settled for a the Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44 Mil Dot .... Looks like a Midway Exclusive.

This is the thread that sold me on it:

You will like that one!!  Check with Dave and see what he can do (if avail).  We're a Vortex dealer.

Are ou familiar with the SWFA Super Sniper series? It's the best $300 sniper scope you can buy.

I'll have to look in to this!  Thanks!

Its a Midway exclusive Righty ... Not sold anywhere else, and don't think I really want to plop down more than $500 on my first scope :)

I went with the Nikon Buckmaster in Mildot.  Watch Midway because they will run a special to get it around 300 with free shipping.

Interesting .... I'll look in to this as well.  Thanks!

Yup Nikon Buckmaster's are damn fine scopes for the money, I don't have any experience with Vortex scopes but from looking over it's spec's the only thing I could see as "potentially problematic" (for me at least) is it's limited FOV, but that is more of a personal preference thing.

Take a look at any of the nikon, busnell, leuopold, or burris scopes.  I tend to like fixed power stuff.  A 2 to 3 power fixed would be a nice scope out to 300 yards or so.  They have lots of eye relief and dont cost an arm and a leg.

Well,

Midway put the Vortex scope on sale, so I went ahead and picked it up!  Along with the Lee Reloading Guide.  Although I don't plan to start reloading just yet, I figured I'd pick up the manual and read it now to atleast get familiar with everything prior to getting all the equipment :)
