Powerless

I suspect I am like a lot of people, really busy with work and personal life.  I try to pay attention to the political world and on occasion find issues that sound a chord with me so I get involved.  This current gun rights issue being the immediate struggle.  We may win this battle, but more likely, we will lose some ground.  These politicians will take more from us, one more piece of freedom.  I can't estimate how big or small the loss, but a loss non the less.  And here we sit, powerless to the onslaught.  Sure we can write our representatives, but that assumes they actually represent us.  Yes we can assemble peacefully and show our solidarity with each other while standing up for our constitutional rights, and we should.  I will be there Saturday.  My representatives have been written.  They know my thoughts.  But honestly, really, do they ultimately care?  And if they do, do they even have the ability to do anything about it?  Where have all the good guys gone?

I saw the news reports on Fast and Furious, or what little their was.  It infuriated me to know that there are corrupt and evil men, who would blatantly sacrifice lives to meet their ideological ends, sitting in their ivory tower, making these decisions with impunity.  Where is the political outrage?  Why aren't we putting these people in jail?  How is it that we have representatives who are not standing in Congress united together in demanding accountability and justice?  I bring this up, because if there is any issue that demanded accountability, that was it.

Constantly, some new atrocity is revealed.  Some apparent incompetence or outright malicious act is discovered and then neatly swept away with no repercussions.  Accountability is not to be had.  We are just along for the ride.  We are ultimately powerless.  I've heard it said, don't hasten the day, and I don't.  But... maybe it has to come crashing down before we Americans cast off this yoke of oppression and corruption.

Sorry to be all gloomy.  I guess I watched the wrong video this morning.

Maybe something will happen when the feds piss off enough states......or maybe it will stay like this until another civil war......which some might say is closer than we think.

If so many feel the same way, one cannot be powerless.

I think one of the problems is that Big O keeps throwing around the term "majority" when referring to the folks wanting a gun ban. He has everyone (that get's their news from the news) convinced that it's true. He knows that this statement is true and is trying to keep morale down. MY morale is high but I am a little nervous.

I also share your feelings.  Fast & Furious, Benghazi... I just shake my head.  How can they get away with that?  I'm not one for scapegoats, but SOMEONE has to be held responsible for such things AND be punished.  Jail, fines, public flogging, something...  It's very disheartening.  I tend to be pretty subdued but it sure seems like its time to start standing on the tables, pointing fingers, and screaming for justice.  "Do not go quietly into that good night..."   After all, that's how our forefathers convinced the Continental Congress to declare independence.  I refuse to believe the exchanges were "polite discussions between gentlemen".  There's plenty of evidence that fisticuffs broke out occasionally.  At least they had passion.

I can accept that I'm no longer a part of the vast majority, but I accepting that I'm a minority without a voice is hard pill to swallow.  Emails to the legislators seem to have no effect.  You get a canned response from an aide.  They don't give a f__k.  It's a sad state of affairs.

If I only learned one thing from martial arts, it was that anyone can beat anyone on any day.  I apply that to my life and realize that one person CAN make a difference.  It's all about good days, bad days, and determination.

Nice. That is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing
