A year ago all the buzz in guns was about the Springfield XDS, a six round pocket .45ACP that proved to be a game changer in the concealed carry world. Everyone has asked over the past year, will the XDS be available in 9mm and .40 S&W? For SHOT Show 2013, Springfield answered for the 9mm, and the answer is yes. The XD-S 9mm is the same dimensions as the XD-S .45ACP, but it holds 2 more rounds in both the flush and extended mags, 7 and 9 respectively. We got to shoot the gun today with Rob Leatham, and as little as the .45ACP kicks in the XD-S, the 9mm is even lighter shooting. Check out our Media Day at the Range video with our host, Julie Mac. No word yet on an XD-S .40, but the 9mm is going to be a big hit. Hopefully we’ll get one soon for a full review.
Not really sure why it would be such a great hit really.  I owned the xds 45 and loved it.  Very controllable and kick was minimal.  The slim factor was great, but the BIG deal was that it was in fact a .45acp but the size of a 9mm.  That was their big ploy and commercial.  A big bore .45 but slim and concealable.  There are PLENTY of slim 9mm out there that are very concealable in my opinion.

I can see this as being a good fit for first time ccw's.  Not bulky and somewhat lite to carry.  But if you were going to have a xds, why would you not want to stay with a .45 other than just liking a 9mm better.  Some might just love Springers.  If that is the reason, then it will be a big hit.

Just my .02

Newman ... The XDs in 9mm will be popular.

Shoot, look at Shield's in 9mm ... They go for OVER MSRP!

Micro pistols are here to stay and get more and more popular every single day.  It will be nice when this hits the market dropping the price down on shields a bit.

The XDs9 is on my short list of wants :)

haha ...

Completely understand Newman.  I'm a 9mm Fanboy at heart ... I know lots of people wanted a small single stack 45 to rival their 9 counterparts, and I think Springfield did the smart thing in introducing the 45 first :)

I think the 9 will be just as popular, if not more popular than the 45 :)

Can't wait for this to hit the shops so I can go and fondle :)

It is about time!  I believe this will be my next pistol.  For carry, I am alternating between a keltec pf9 and a Springfield SC xd9.  This xds9 should bring together what I love about both of those pistols, while getting rid of the downsides.  I only have 9mm pistols, so the xds 45 was never a temptation, but now, I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these.
