Walmart offers to hire 100,000 vets over 5 years - something finally good!

Having worked for them while I was in the Nasty Guard, I'll say they are very, very pro-vet. In fact, back then you could keep your position (with raises) if you entered active duty... I think there was a cap of 6 years. So a guy I went to high school with went back to work at Walmart after being in the Marine Corp for several years and his time in service at Walmart is counted for all those years. He is an assistant manager now.

That's great, maybe they will also buy more Made in USA products with their new found patriotism?

BTW, there was a report that Walmart was suspending orders on ammo until the dictator lays down more anti-rights proprosals. This was found to be untrue btw.

Walmart was invited to VP Biden's round table on gun violence. They initially were not going to attend until word came from the White House that attending was not optional - it was a command performance.

On Tuesday  January 15th it was announced that Walmart will hire 100,000 military veterans over the next 5 years. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Why only a 5 year initiative? Shouldn't the hiring of willing, able bodied, veterans be a priority with all businesses - every day of every year?

Also on Tuesday in a small blurb on Brietbart.com it is mentioned that El Presidente Obama has tapped Walmart Foundation Manager Sylvia Matthews for a cabinet post. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/01/14/Obama-Picks-Women-From-Morgan-Stanley-And-Wal-Mart-For-Senior-Positions

Maybe I read too much into the news, or perhaps, I read too much news.

Walmart decides they're going to put effort into a good initiative and folks still find fault with that.  Geez.  Being pro-veteran is nothing new.

Want to hear about another thing Walmart does for members of the military?  When I was in the Nat'l Guard and conducted my two-week annual training, Walmart would pay the difference on the amount of income I would lose by not working in the store.  So, say that I would have made $500 more had I not been activated for duty and was working in the store, Walmart would pay me that $500 so I wouldn't experience any loss in income by serving my country.  Can you find many employers that would do that?  Being pro-vet is nothing new.  They do these hiring initiatives for veterans all the time when other companies won't do jack.
