Have you read the draft of the NY law....?

I can't believe the draft of what will become law in the state of New York.

1. Seven round magazine limit.
2. You have one year to sell all magazines over seven rounds out of state or you must turn them in to authorities.
3. You have one year to retrofit any ten round mags to 7 rounds.

There is much more. I have to go to work. You should read it. It's scary. How can you require law abiding citizens to turn in their personal / private legally purchased property?

Is this actually going to stay or get challenged by the SCOTUS?

Well, still needs to passed by the Assembly (House), but seems like it will, can't tell for sure.

If SCOTUS takes it, it will have to work it's way up, the Court doesn't reach out to "challenge" anything.

Since NYS will not be banning handguns or long guns period, the question would have to be whether such extensive restrictions within that framework will pass constitutional muster, and I'd wager they would. Or they just wouldn't hear it.

Especially since that by the time it may take to get there, BHO may well have tipped the balance of the Court.

Good luck finding a 7 round magazine for any full sized semi automatic pistol except a 1911.  Good luck finding Ruger Mark 1 and Hi Standard 22 pistol mags that meet this law because honestly there aren't any new ones being made.

I'm sure this was researched by the gestapho as this was being written. Backdoor way to remove all those "hitman" guns from the populace.

If you gotta turn in or sell outta state, that kinda takes care of the gun problems from the law-abiding citizenry. No mags...NO problem.

They'll all go back to building zipguns till the ammo runs out.

I think there will be a lot of weapons on GB and other websites from New York.  I don't see how any modern full size semi-automatic pistols, other than a 1911 will still be usable, unless new magazines are produced by the manufacturers.  I suspect a lot of small pocket pistols will survive, though.  Prices on these new magazines will be high as well, for New York State Gun owners, because there will have to be new tooling to make these new magazines, which costs the manufacturer more money for not a lot of return, because it's only for one state.  Could you all see Glock, S&W, CZ or Beretta produce an entire new line of magazines just for New York State?  I really can't.  And you know the State of New York is going to require some sort of permanent fix for these.

The really stupid thing is the crooks are still going to get the hi-cap mags and use them. They just created a whole new black market for hi-cap magazines up there. I can see people coming down here from New York and buying thousands of dollars worth magazines and taking them back up north and re-saling them for 2 or 3 times the amount.  I can also see a lot of owners totally ignoring the law and keeping what they got.

All this does is punish the legal gun owners.

The dumber thing is that New York requires a carry license just to own a handgun and the handgun has to be registered on the license.

I guess that wasn't enough for the children.

SCOTUS does not "challenge" laws nor does any other court.  The issue must first be brought to the bench by a plaintiff.

Looks like the 1911 will be safe. Oh right, Kimber is in NYS. Any other 1911 manufacturers up there?

Remington?

Yup, only handgun they make.

And far as I know, Remmie only makes one mag fed rifle with standard mag over 7 rounds, the 587. Although both its tube models hold more.

Ok, so I say again will it stay or will it go?

I've already opined it'll stay. Maybe you should do a poll if you want lots of opinions.

Ridiculous! It's getting worse every second, gotta lil sick feeling in my stomach about what will be said tomorrow. I know that there are probably a lot of law abiding gun owners in NY and hate to know how they are feeling now.

It appears they use a different currency in NY. I checked armslist, and found GI metal mags for $100 each.

Before yesterday they still had the Clinton ban in effect and could have (preban) hi cap mags which never quit bringing $100.

Now they have 1 year to sell them out of state, destroy them, or become a criminal for posing them. :surrender:

Our mags will soon be the same, I fear. :ugh:
