Who knows how to lessen the retention on a Kydex holster?

Recommended Posts

I just got my Kydex holster and mag carrier from Black Dog Concealment for my M&P9c. The quality is great, but the retention on the holster is too tight. I'd get a heat gun and try it myself but I'm afraid I'll ruin it.

Can anyone give me a little help?

Can you determine what part of the gun it's hanging up on?  It might be as simple has holstering/drawing a bunch of times and wearing the holster in a bit.  My crossbreed came with instructions on using a hair dryer to warm the kydex and a damp wash cloth to keep other areas cool.  Basically you warm it until it just starts to become pliable, stretch it a tad, and cool it quickly with the damp wash cloth.

I did not know Kydex would stretch.

Neither did I, but guess what? I figured it couldn't hurt, so I doubled a plastic grocery sack, put it over the gun, and left it in the holster overnight. When I took it out this morning, I could tell a big difference.

I'd still like to see if I can heat it up just a tad and try to loosen it up just a little more.

Be careful with the heat and take your time.  Yes, kydex can stretch. Just not as fast or quick as leather when at

normal temperature.
