Competition Holsters?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I would like all your opinions on competition holsters shooting IDPA, etc.

I shoot IDPA as a way to practice my self defense skills and always use my carry guns / holsters as I do EDC. I use my high quality holsters such as; my Alessi and Milt Sparks, however.

Probably 90% of the gang shooting IDPA uses some sort of Kydex holster, maybe for a reason. IDPA is a match scored on accuracy and time and many people are interested in winning, not me?

I use OWB quality holsters and I'm here to tell y'all, they are tight on the draw and scares me somewhat trying to constantly re holster a Glock.

Doing a little research, it seems Dale Fricke has a great Kydex holster, the "Michael" I believe for OWB.

Any recommendations guys for competition shooting?

Thanks!

I think some great "competition" kydex holsters are either Comp-Tac or BladeTech.  A lot of IDPA guys I shoot with have these.

I'm not making a recommendation (Google Secret City Weaponeers) just stating what I use.

I use a SCW K25, it's kydex, it's OWB and IMO it's a quality holster.

I shoot IDPA the same way I EDC, OWB with a cover shirt, I don't go for the whole fishin vest thing.

I agree, the whole "Shoot - Me - First" vest thing is just poor tactics IMHO. Folks seem surprised that shoot all of my IDPA matches with a dress coat or sport jacket and have done so since 1997.

To the OP.

The idea for IDPA (well at least in the beginning) was to shoot with what you carry. Any holster you do get can/should also double as your EDC.

For your Glock I would go with the Comp-Tac Belt Holster.  It will hold it tight to the body.

And Use a Good Belt!

I've got the CompTac OWB paddle style and love it.  That thing just does not move a hair on the belt and holds the pistol securely.  I'd buy another in a heartbeat!

I've used Blade-Tech for my USPSA rigs (XD Production, Glock Production, M&P Production, CZ SP01 Production, and Single Stack)  If any of these were my carry weapons, I'd definitely use my Blade-Techs to carry.  They will be as secure as you want them to be, much faster on the draw than leather, and easier to reholster.  Blade-tech and Comp-tac have carry versions of the competition holsters as well that have different mounting options so you can use the "same" holster, just an easier version to mount to your belt.
