Johnson City Gunshop Pricing

Recommended Posts

So, I was bored over the last two days and wandered around to a few gun shops just to browse. While at the first one, I happened to look at the price tag on a new Smith & Wesson 637. The price surprised me, and gave me an idea of how to pass some more time. I'd go see what the other stores around town were charging for the same gun. Now, this is something of an ongoing process, since I've only been into three shops so far this week. I might check a few others over the weekend or next week since I've got the week off.

MSRP from S&W's website: $561.00

Prices I've seen so far:

Byrds: $409 + tax/tics

Crowders: $449 + tax/tics

Mahoneys: $634 + tax/tics :tough:

Seems about right.

I saw the other day a new gunshop opening in Elizabethton... right on 321, on the Johnson City side of the Wal-Mart, heading towards JC on the left hand side. I think it was called Tricities Guns, but don't hold me to that.

If the 637 is what your after you may drive north and checkout Volunteer Gun Shop in Bristol. It's kind of a hole in the wall but the guys that run it have always been good to me and they usually have a good selection of new and used stuff. They seem to always have a 642 and 637 in stock.

Byrd's is a great shop and Doug and Jason are top notch. They know thier stuff but they are kind. I particularly like to go on Friday and Saturday when they are both there. There's a lot of comedy with those guys!

There is also supposedly a new shop just off of Exit 66 (I-81).

I have hit and miss luck with Mahoney's. Their Glocks and Sigs are somewhat competitively priced if you compare to mail order and tally your transfer fee, shipping, etc. BUT, I went buy a S&W 442 and it was insanely expensive. I even asked if they had the wrong tag because it was priced closer the the Scandium revolvers. I guess that's why you gotta shop around!

I was just browsing and happened to notice the sky high price Mahoney's had on the 637. While I was in South Carolina over the weekend I checked prices on those down there as well just for amusement value and the shops around Greenville/Pickens all had them for $459 or so. Mahoney's is just weird I suppose.

Is Monty's in J.C.? I recall someone telling me that they have an excellent gunsmith.

Yes, it is just on the Johnson City side of Unicoi. Whatever that road (107?) that runs from Erwin, to Unicoi, to JC.

Yeah, Gunrunners. I stopped by about two weeks ago and they weren't open yet. Looks like it may be a nice shop.

Are you sure that the One you priced in Mahoneys is not the crimson trace model. They are higher in price because of the laser.

I was buy there today and they had the blued hammerless smith .38 for something like $449.00.

Thier prices are competitive with others in the area.

Quick! Somebody pitch a tent. We're having a revival over here!

Goodness be, Cabo, do you owe Dan Mahoney that big of a favor? Hell, he's a fraternity brother of mine, but I wouldn't purchase a roll of duct tape from his place, much less a gun ...and I wouldn't care to tell him why, not that he cares.
