Very nice find. Remember, LEO's are not your friends.:)

Just kiddin'. Don't get your panties in a bunch.;)

No reason to disclaim the first statement. In that instance the LEO is not your friend. He's there to put you in jail.

In other situations he is. Just depends on context.

I saw this some time ago, great video.

A really good reminder to lawyer up and plead the 5th (as I watch 'The Fugitive')...

Wow. That definitely gives a new perspective.

The first half of this lecture, from the attorney, is equally educational.

True, but I'd hate to be the instigator of yet another "cop bashing thread". It just amazes me how some have such a difficult time seeing the reality of things.

I've yet to find a LEO admit they are vigorously trained to not be our friends in many situations. Being vigorously trained in "trickery" is hardly friendly, IMHO. As the video states, even if your innocent, they are trained to trick you into screwing up, saying something wrong that could be twisted into making you look guilty. Tactics such as this are strictly for the benefit of LE. With the number of wrongly convicted, this hardly seems friendly to me. Fact is, with the proper tools and knowhow, damn near any person can be made to look guilty of damn near anything. No one has access to such tools and knowhow quite like LE. And they use the hell out of it. Even a simpleton like myself could probably convince some of you of things that aren't true.

With that being said, in no way, shape or form does this make me a "cop hater". I have full respect for LE (in most case), but lets call a spade a spade.

As was brought up earlier, I'm a truck driver. Most people have a common interpretation of what exactly a truck driver is, and being a truck driver, I'm more than likely going to be thrown into that pile. Being a truck driver, most people who don't know me would consider me a fat, lazy, uneducated, foul mouthed a$$hole (the list is nearly endless), which most is true. But, once in a while, I can be a pretty damn nice guy. I have no problem admitting what and who I am. No need to walk around pretending I'm a brain surgeon.

Great video, would love to see the first half as well.

Yah, definitely watch the whole thing - I didn't click the link as I recognized the detective and assumes it was the whole thing...

I've been accused of talking too fast for some people, but that dude talks FAST. Can I slow it down to 33rpm and play it again?

Oops, someone's age is showing....

Very nice.

You can also learn what NOT to do by watching First 48 on A&E, or as it's commonly called, Black People Go To Jail.

The basic story is to not talk to the police without your attorney present. Videos like this help explain why.

John and Patsy Ramsey handled the situation correctly. If they hadn't refused to speak to the police, they would have been convicted of their daughter's death. They may have been guilty of that crime, but even if not, they would almost certainly have been charged with it and probably convicted of JonBenét's killing.

As anyone who has been through our Defensive Series Classes can attest to, I agree with most of what he said in the video.

On the flip side, in my experience, when people are the VICTIMS of crime, they sure do want the police to use any means neccessary to "get the bastard that did this to me"...including trickery.

End

This is the thread that "TripleDigitRide" refers to...starting with his post on this page.

It wasn't "cop bashing" that irritated me...it was the general, negative stereotype statement that I thought was ignorant.

If people want to talk about a dumbass cop that did something, hey I'm all for it (believe me, I've got more dumbass cop stories than most of you). I just don't like stereotypical statements about anyone, including cops. If you said, "all black people commit crime or all Jews are cheats," we'd call that racism, wouldn't tolerate it, and rightly denounce it.

Most of the time I feel that "TripleDigitRide" has very informed and useful posts...this one just tweaked me a bit.

At the risk of being chastised - I hate being chastised :P I didn't re-read the other thread.

But I do tend to agree with my wife (ex-wife on Thursday) that stereotypes generally have validity in observation.

That's too bad.

That's too bad.

I have no reason to believe that you are anything but a very nice guy. I can't say you've done anything to make me believe otherwise. That being the case, my post was in no way a personal attack on you.

Yes, it was quite a generalization, but a generalization based on my own personal experiences. It's a generalization based on something that actually happened to me, and things that have openly happened to others. Is it a fair generalization? Maybe not, but I honestly don't think I'm all that far off.

Having LEO's as family members, I've spent a whole lot of time around many LEO's who did or do serve in one department or another. This includes family, and friends of family. Not to mention the normal interactions most of us have with LEO's over our lifetime. In my own personal experiences, it's been rare that most of these LEO's did not have the same type of "I know it all" attitude. It's also been rare that they didn't act as if they were above the law. Maybe this is what some LEO's simply consider a "perk" of having such a job.

Again, this is just my opinion based on my personal experiences. And again, based on countless conversations with others, I don't believe it's a very uncommon opinion.

Maybe instead of the "good" LEO's being upset, because many have such an opinion, maybe they should be upset with the "bad" LEO's. And do something about it.
