Don't like McCain?

Consider this: George W. Bush beat John Kerry by a very small margin. After winning that election, two seats came up for the Supreme Court, and George W. Bush appointed John Roberts and Samuel Alito.

If John Kerry had won the election. He would have appointed two liberal judges, and...the Supreme Court would have shot down individual ownership of guns.

I don't care for many of John McCain's ideas. I think the modern incarnation of the Repbublicans are almost as bad as the Democrats. But, considering how important a few votes were to the recent Supreme Court ruling, I'm going to vote for McCain.

That is pretty much the exact reason why I will likely vote for McCain over a third party.

As bad as I hate admitting that my vote will go for McCain this November, I have to put my one vote in as my part to try to keep Obamalama out. So we are up against it this time, but it seems that it's been like this for the last few elections it's just getting worse.

IMO if votes go for a third party it will only hurt McCain's chances of keeping the big O out so I actually wish there were no third parties to contend with.

Oh and that's correct, I don't like McCain, but hey, what else can we do?

I hope, one day, to find a candidate I can vote for without holding my nose.

Take a shower and announce your candidacy, time's a wastin'! :tough:

Honestly, if you think about it the next two Judges due to retire are both very liberal. I think in a worst case scenario were still in pretty good shape for a while yet.

Yup. Keep in mind also, that two of the four who dissented on Heller were appointed by Republican presidents.

That said, it would be nice if we could replace one or two of those four with someone more able to read correctly. There are potentially going to be a lot more cases coming to SCOTUS in the wake of Heller that might not be as clear-cut. We could use an improvement in the layout if we're going to really move forward from yesterday's victory.

gutterboy is right. still, those two parties are becoming more and more alike each year. we get farther away from the ideals that the framers of the constitution had every year...how do you fix that?

I agree, ain't a dime's worth of difference between them, but I'll take that dime.

If I'd waited to vote for someone I believed in, I would have voted once for Reagan's second term, and never another time in my life.

I will also be voting unenthusiastically for McCain unless something else changes between now and then. And I think the Supreme Court appointments weigh the heaviest on my preference for him. Although I think from the general consensus among political prognosticators, the Republicans will likely take a beating in the House and Senate this year. If McCain should win the election and he gets to appoint replacements for retiring Supreme Court Judges, its not likely he will get the Senate to approve any more Conservative Judges like we would like to see on the bench.

While the liberals are expected to be the next to retire, don't rule out the possibility of cancer, heart attacks, or car wrecks in taking out one or more of the conservatives. Two of them are getting up in years themselves. The next eight years are looking pretty dicey to me, no matter who wins.

We need to vote for congressmen the same way we choose our president. Among other things, find out if they believe in judges that look at the original intent (like Scalia) or make new rules (like Stevens). Don't forget about the Circuit Courts of Appeals & other Federal Judges, they'll be ruling on several cases soon to be filed.

I will be voting third, fourth, fifth or what ever party. Since I live in Memphis, there is no way a person from another party other then the Dems. will win this county. The minority is the majority here in this city, and they (as a whole) always vote Democrap....so I will be voting outside of the two major parties, hoping I can help strengthen the statics in favor of more parties.

Is it really a Democrat vs Republican thing? It seems many that the true meaning and definition of the two have been skewed by conservatism vs liberalism. I have no problem with a conservative Democrat. We have one on here, Len. The liberal movement seems more in line with socialism to me. Oh, and McCain seems to be more of a Democrat than a Republican. I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around this. I always considered or thought of myself as a Republican, but the more I learn, I don't want to tie myself down to a party, I rather consider myself as a conservative.:D

You said it. Some of the so called "Republicans" aren't much better than the Democrats. (John McCain definitely comes to mind. Although the other posters make valid points. If Obama is elected, we may have another liberal.

I don't classify myself as Democrat or Republican really, I just try to figure out which person is best for the job. So far I have not found such said person for a few years now. :D

as i've said before ---

how come ?

we get 50 choices for Miss America BUT only 2 for Mr. President ????

:2cents: bob

So you would want 50 choices for president? Screw that. I have enough trouble trying to decipher the political double-speak of two candidates, let alone for 50.

At the beginning of primary season we started out with about 20 choices between the Republicans and Democrats. To think that after all the voting and dropping out of the losers along the way, we are left with McCain and Obama at the head of their respective tickets makes me shake my head in disbelief.

I am not so sure this is a good analogy.

Who would not want to choose between 50 beautiful woman. It is a no lose situation.

But say we had 50 presidential candidates. My guess is we would have 50 lying, unscrupulous scumbags. Still a no win situation

It does sort of make you want to fill out a slip at the "refunds" desk, doesn't it?

Except the vote is statewide, not county-wide. So your vote goes in alongside people in Williamson County et al.

A vote for anyone but McCain is a vote for Obama.

That's the bottom line.

BTW, I don't think most folks in this country care much about liberty or anything else as long as they get their "entitlements." When the Republicans figured that out, they became Democrats, at least in action.
