Best camo pattern for east/middle Tennessee? A-TACS, Multicam, Woodland, or...?

Recommended Posts

I did a couple of searches, but didn't see any threads on this.  If I've missed it somewhere, please pardon me.

What is the best camo pattern for the middle/east region?  Woodland is the old military standby, but are any of the new patterns better?  I really like the look of A-TACS, but it's too subdued for the greenery in this region.  In the pictures I've seen, the Multicam seems to be a much superior pattern.  There is the woodland MARPAT pattern as well.   There is the newer A-TACS FG, which appears to be a compromise between A-TACS and Multicam.  A lot of my gear is OD green.  Just curious what others thought.

I thought about that, but if it is so good, I wonder why the military never used it.

The military needs a more general type camo pattern that works to hide from other human eyes across a wider range of areas & seasons, while hunters can "fine tune" their camo pattern & colors for specific animals in specific areas & in different seasons.

Take a digital camera, go out to the area in the season that you want to hunt, take some snapshots, compare the snapshots w/realtree app match the patterns/colors as best you can and you'll get the best camo for your needs.

I totally agree with Richard. While the Woodland Marpat is pretty good, my personal favorite for East TN is Realtree AP. Blends in great!! Richard is totally correct in saying that the military has to blend in anywhere, anytime. You, however, have the advatage of knowing where you will be and when you will be there and can plan accordingly. If I were you I would go with a commercial brand of camoflage. Just my .02
