County tag offices???

I was under the assumption that tag and registration offices were gov buildings and fell under the blanket rule of not carrying so I hadn't paid attention to the doors until today.

I was at the Hamilton Co office off Bonny Oaks and the guy in front of me was doing a poor job of hiding the Uncle Mikes (or other cheap kydex) OWB holster he was carrying. Large guy...small shirt. doesn't usually conceal well.

Upon exiting I looked over the doors and there wasn't a single thing about handguns.

Was he in the wrong? Am I placing this type of office in the wrong category?

There is NO blanket ban on carry at government offices/buildings/grounds. Most have to post just like any other place.

The only place you can't carry at the courthouse and that doesn't have to post a sign is a courtroom when court is in session. 39-17-1306

I was talking about county courthouses in the part you quoted.

I think most federal couthouses and buildings are posted, but admit I'm not sure if they have to be by federal law. But even they are not off limits by TN law.

On post offices, here is an answer for Handgunlaw.us

#4 Question: Can I legally carry in the Post Office?

Answer: Each state law is different. In some states, Post Office carry is restricted by the state, in others it’s not. If it’s not restricted by the state, Title 18, United States Code, Sec. 930 applies. See below.

Title 18, United States Code, Sec. 930.

Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

a.
Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both

d.
Subsection (a) shall not apply to

3.
The lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

(Administrative Note)

39-I-4-410 says that other Federal Laws do not

apply to the Postal Service unless stated in the Federal Law that it covers

the Postal Service.

Title 39 Part I Chapter 4

§ 410. Application of other laws

(a) Except as provided by subsection (:hat: of this section, and except as otherwise provided in this title or insofar as such laws remain in force as rules or regulations of the Postal Service, no Federal law dealing with public or Federal contracts, property, works, officers, employees, budgets, or funds, including the provisions of chapters 5 and 7 of title 5, shall apply to the exercise of the powers of the Postal Service.

(B) The following provisions shall apply to the Postal Service:

(1)
section 552 (public information), section 552a (records about individuals), section 552b (open meetings), section 3102 employment of personal assistants for blind, deaf, or otherwise handicapped employees), section 3110 (restrictions on employment of relatives), section 3333 and chapters 72 (antidiscrimination; right to petition Congress) and 73 (suitability, security, and conduct of employees), section 5520 (withholding city income or employment taxes), and section 5532 (dual pay) of title 5, except that no regulation issued under such chapters or section shall apply to the Postal Service unless expressly made applicable;

(2)
all provisions of title 18 dealing with the Postal Service, the mails, and officers or employees of the Government of the United States;

Is that a public park?

If so....he is sort of right. The law (39-17-1311) does say that have to be posted, but then it goes on to say the authority responsible for the park can exempt itself from having to post.
