I didn't see this posted yet and I thought it was good for a laugh...

Apparently, Feinstein used to own the domaine name but let it lapse. I don't known if she had a site with the domaine name but it belongs to Ares Arms, now. :)

Awesome page, but it won't last long. I'll bet she already has her staff and attorneys suing to get it back. Unfortunately,

she will get it back, too.

I did a bit more digging this morning and found out it wasnt owned by The Wicked Witch of the West, but rather a domaine sitter. Still funny. Just thinking about a fan finding the page on Wiki and reading a few articles before realizing it's not a gun control blog...

Now I know Feinstein could buy the domain back when Ares Armor stops paying for it/when it goes up for grabs at the end of the time period (3 years maybe?) idk. In any case I have a feeling that Ares is going to get a lot more use out of it and have a whole lot of fun before anything will be done.

You can register a domain yearly or for about any number of years. This one was done for two:

Created on: 04-Jan-13
Expires on: 04-Jan-15

And of course he could sell the domain name to her at any time. Dunno about him, but I'd certainly back off my freedom to spoof for the right amount of cabbage.

Thanks for the clarification. I could be tempted to sell it back for the right amount of money, but then again it would be much more fun just to watch her wriggle in anger.

Kind of reminds me of the whole Nissan.com thing, Nissan motors has been trying to get that domain for years now and still hasnt.

But my guess is someone will pay that domain owner from the Feds and it will back in the Senator's hands soon.

If thats the case then its no different then whitehouse.com as opposed to whitehouse.gov and its a non-story ;)

Well, don't really know, as can't find a story that states she owned it but let it lapse, and don't know of a tool to trace history of a lapsed domain.

Know that original creation date shows on domains that have changed hands no matter how many times, but actually don't if that reverts to newest one on the ones that actually lapse and get picked up?

It is true though, that all the "senatorxxx.com" that I just tried were already taken. Didn't do much research on each one to see if it's by the actual senators, though. A couple obviously were, some maybe, some almost certainly not,  some are actually live, most are parked, etc.

I didnt do any research at all :)

I just ASSumed by the context that the domain was owned and used by her and someone snuck in and grabbed it when it lapsed.  If that was the case it is amusing and most likely she would get it back, if someone just went through all the names and found it and registered then its not a big deal.  I would think a US Senator would have a.gov domain.

They all get one by default but many have several domain names of their own, usually pointing to same hosting. Lots of them are made during their initial campaigns and just stay up too, with minor revisions:

For example, Corker has:

http://senatorbobcorker.com/

http://www.bobcorkerforsenate.com/

with same content. Maybe others too, who knows?
