Traveling to Indiana

Because I am a responsible gun owner, I want to make sure I understand gun laws and follow them. I am going to visit some family in Indiana and would like to take my gun with me. As far as I can tell, both Kentucky and Indiana recognize TN HCPs. This means I can carry in those states as long as I have a TN HCP correct? One (or both) of those states don't have reciprocity agreements with TN, but if I understand that correctly, that refers to transferring permits when you move. Let me know if there is something I don't understand or missed!

Good in both states.

Brush up on no carry zones and whatnot at:

Yeah, you are fine in both states.  I have a daughter that lives with her mom in Northern Indiana, so I have been going up there a lot the last few years.  Indiana's laws are actually more lax than TN.  One example is that their DMV issues carry permits without any class or range test.  If you follow the same laws you do in TN you will be fine.  The one thing I would suggest is that if you get pulled over you notify, even if you would not normally.  It may not be required, but I would be on the side of caution carrying across state lines.

Here is what I can tell you about Indiana and carrying in a TN HCP. The restricted places are about the same as they are in TN. I would recommend just staying away from child care centers regardless because that is about they only grey area of carrying there. There gunbuster no weapon signs don't really carry much weight. The way I understand it the responding LEO makes the decisions on charging, ignoring or asking you to go way. I do advice concealing you carry weapon in Indiana, your legal to OC there but people just don't do it. You will get checked if OCing and it will take a long time for them to establish that you are good to go because they gave not always accepted TN HCP.

As mentioned, you are good to go in both states. Always check statute and code, but I deal with the same thing only in reverse. I live in Indiana, all my family lives in KY and I travel to TN regularly for IDPA matches.

Yep, although the State Police issues license to carry, the DMV doesn't issue them (thank goodness, it would never get done, LOL!).

Correct. "No Gun Signs" and so forth carry ZERO legal weight in Indiana. However, if you are carrying in these places and are asked to leave but don't, you can be charged with trespassing. Plenty of folks OC in Indiana and most of us never have a problem (although as suggested, might be best to CC, I do when I travel). A few have and as a result there has been a recent rash of lawsuits in the state because some LEO either ignored or was not informed of Indiana Code. And, really, that's true in every state. Code can say one thing, but it doesn't mean LEOs are up on it or willing to follow. If something goes down, be cool, be quiet, get a supervisor.
