PPS Barrel Problem?

Recommended Posts

I still have not fired my PPS, but I noticed this chip out of the top of the barrel block.  Should I be worried?  Is it enough to go through the trouble of sending it in for a replacement?

You have a one year warranty and the repair should be free. You might want to look at the slide housing underside to see whether you have any additional damage.

How does that happen?

It's hard to tell from just a photo, but it looks as if the steel had a flaw in it.  Assuming the firearm was never fired at all, I'm surprised it left the factory like that.

Still haven't had a reply to my email, but I will give it some time.

Please keep us up-to-date on this.  I've heard good and bad about Smith & Wesson's customer service over the past couple of years, and very little good about Walther's.

Have you been to this site yet   .http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/   lots of great info about walthers. They are in the process of opening up there own service center in Arkansa now. No longer part of Smith and Wesson.

I am part of the PPS forum (same screen name).  Thanks for the heads up about the service center.

Finally got a reply, which is weird since I sent my email to customerservice@waltheramerica. I will have to call them Monday.

Knox,

This contact and return shipping address was detailed in my "BB" date code PPS owners manual (my PPS is still under warranty). The contact information for service is:

Walther America

Sales and Warranty Service

2100 Roosevelt Ave.

Springfield, MA 01104

Phone: 800-372-6454

Fax: 413-747-3317

Email: customerservice@waltheramerica.com

I know that Walther recently terminated their agreement with Smith and Wesson and you may have better contact information.

Your barrel condition shouldn't have gotten through Walther's quality inspection process. Since you haven't shot it, I would take it back to your dealer and ask for a total replacement or your money back (my opinion).

I wish I could, but I signed an agreement that any problems with the gun would be handled by the manufacturer (bought at Academy Sports).

You bought a good gun and Walther will fix it. Kudos to you on staying calm. I would be "bending" an Academy's manager's ear about the aggravation. Good luck with the repairs. I think Academy owes you some free ammo.

Eh, it could be a lot worse.  I still have my Glock 19 (my friend who was going to buy it last month actually just came over to talk me out selling it, and I am glad he did).

I love the PPS, and have no doubt all will be well.

Got my return papers.  Now the long wait when I send it back.  I will miss my PPS...

Hopefully it won't be too long.  It's a great pistol.  I need to carry mine more often.
