Promote Israeli style gun laws?

I think this would be a good way to get churches on board with RKBA. Most baptist type churches around our state are very pro-israel. Showing how Israel's gun laws and carry laws work, and how there are no church/synagogue shootings there, would go a long way towards a more gun-friendly church.

 

I'm going to start a non-profit for advancement of Israeli style carry and ownership laws here in the US. (Except in cases where in a given locality, the Israeli laws would be more restrictive, probably only an issue in Wyoming or something - in those cases the money will just be spent on operating costs).

 

Sound good?

Maybe you could contact the JPFO for assistance?  In my opinion, the JPFO is a much better organization than the NRA.  If they had the financial backing the NRA had, things would be a lot different.  They have more spine than the NRA, just not enough weight.

I don't know about changing our laws to be like Israel. Although I do see your intent, it might not work as well as our

current 2nd Amendment. They have a completely different and very real threat facing them. Maybe a better campaign

to address the churches would be good? There is already a growing acknowledgement in churches about self protection

and firearms to the point that it might be good to the extent of letting it only continue on it's own course.

 

It's always a good thing to point out the reasons to detractors, but a lot of churches are getting the message, or are

spreading the message in a positive note.

Before suggesting supporting Israeli style gun laws it may be a good idea to look into what those laws actually are. 

 

1. Applicant must be a permanent resident of Israel for 3 consecutive years prior to making application for a firearms permit.

2. Applicant must be 21 years of age.

3. The permit request must be for personal use, not to engage in the business of firearms sales.

4. Applicant must fall into one of the following categories:

a. Part-time reservist (volunteer) for 3 years- may own 1 handgun
b. Such a reservist (volunteer) is a member of a gun club - may own 1 rifle
c. Professional, licensed public transportation driver, transporting a minimum of 5 passengers - may own 1 handgun
d. Licensed animal control officer- may own 2 hunting rifles, *not* full automatic weapons, or semi-automatic weapons with a limited capacity magazine.
e. Full-time dealer of jewelry or large sums of cash or valuables - may own 1 handgun

It works for them. That's not bad, at all. It wouldn't fit in with our explanation of liberty in our land. Theirs is a unique situation

we can't compare. When you compare Israel to the USA, Israel doesn't have some choices available to it like we do. We are

alike in many ways, but we are also very different in others.

Guess it's kinda like their airline security system?  It is flawless; it has to be.  Many, here, however point out the

size of Israel v USA and say it wouldn't/couldn't work here?!  <shrug shoulders>  Don't know.

I think if we had mandatory military service in the US like Israel, then this wouldn't be quite as bit of an issue.
