TN state rep Faison: unfunding confiscation attempts

Agree. I read this to mean that the feds can commandeer every law enforcement official in Tennessee to assist with their confiscation efforts as long as they foot the bill.  Would be much stronger in there were a period (.) after "state" and everything from "unless" forward was stricken from the bill.

Reads like this law only says the feds can't do anything unless the funding for it comes from the feds.Am I correctly interpreting this?

Sadly, that's the way I read it too. Sounds as if the Feds pay for it, then they can confiscate away in TN. I hope I am misinterpreting it. Seems like this bill is concerned about our rights until that sentence then it suddenly sounds like its all about the money.

I just saw this on Fox.   At least it would good to see and (I forgot the name) another one of our Reps I believe said something along the lines if Obama tries to by pass the legislative branch they will oppose it.

Rather than speculate on the intent of the terminal clause in section ( B), I've asked Rep Faison if he could clarify/explain the intent. Will advise if/when I hear back.

The intent doesn't matter. The effect is that the Fed's can confiscate all they want if they use federal funds. Rep Faison needs to re-write this to say any attempt to disarm citizens or confiscate weapons in this State is a violation of the Tennessee Constitution and will be a felony subject to a minimum of x number of years in jail (for each violation).

EDIT: upon looking at this one from Wyoming, it seems that Wyoming already had this statute on the books pertaining to firearms manufactured and possessed solely within WY; that's whee the penalties apply.  The part added is subsection (d), which has no penalties attached - only declares such Federal legislation unenforceable.

This doesn't go far enough.

It needs to include no federal agent or rep can confiscate arms, ammo, magazines, accessories owned and or made within the borders of the state of Tennessee. Residents are not required to register arms, magazines, of related items with the federal government.

 

Remember Janet Reno's quote-

"waiting periods are only a step,

registration is only a step,

prohibition of firearms is the goal".

 

It isn't any clearer than that.

TN legislature enacts lots of stuff that sound great, but with clauses that neuter it for practical purposes.

I think it safe to say that the Faison/Nicely bill is a work-in-progress...a caption bill...with significant changes yet to come.  I don't completely understand why that tact is necessary, but at this point, I'll take their word on it.
