cost to reload 9mm

I am toying with the idea of finally starting to reload. I was wondering what kind of cost per round can I expect. I have been shooting mostly WWB at 19 cents per round. At the present this is the only round I am looking to load, but I can hardly see a savings. Any tips will be appreciated.

It depends on your amount. I shoot about 5k a year. It cost me $108 per thousand to reload or 10.8 cent each. White box @ .19 cent each is $190 per thousand. That is $82 per thousand or $410 per year savings. I am reloading with JHP, those retail are around .30 each, so the savings are 192 per thousand/960 per year.

Can I assume that a 10.8 cent cost is with you using your own brass. What about supplies? Where is some of the best places to get started with supplies. Thanks

I use range brass, I have picked up thousands. Powder valley is a great place for large orders on powder and primers. for smaller orders, reloaders bench in Mt. juliet. Bullets...Percision Delta, look thru gunbroker site. I am using my old stock, so my cost will go up some next year.

$0.10 a round is reasonable if you play your cards right....you can do a little better if you watch for deals on good cast bullets.

Basically grew up in Portland as grandparents and 10 generations of family is from there. I remember when it wasn't a suburb of Nashville. They used to grow miles upon miles of strawberries there.

Heck...for a reloader in Portland I will send you a buch of 9mm brass for free to get ya started if you decide to take the plunge (PM me if you start reloading).

Well howdy neighbor. I have lived here all my life and can remember when at 6:00pm when Houchens closed all was finished for the night. Different story now! Thanks for the tip and offer on the brass. Ill let you know.

I haven't set back up since I moved. But, I think my last estimate was under 0.15 per round.. and thats with the raised prices and almost no old supply stock.

I think the ideal is to buy a year or so worth of components at a go. But that takes a bit more planning than I'm capable of at the moment.

Brass in 9mm isn't something you should have to buy for at least a little longer. Most people still just drop it at the range so its prety easy to pickup. I think I picked up around 400 pieces last time I went.

Harbor frieght in hickory hallow has a $50 tumbler. Friend got one and has been satisfied, I need to suck it up and get one as well. They are a godsend on cleaning range pickup brass.

I can vouch for them being pretty decent quality too...every now and then they will pop up for sale for $3X and you can also buy a second tub to fit it for $12.

Buy corn cob media in the pet section for $3 at Wal-Mart.

Harbor freight sometimes has boxes of walnut hull. I use that with a little brasso, and it works like a champ. I believe one 25 pound box would last you a lifetime.

I just started reloading a couple of weeks ago. I've started with .38 spls. According to my calculations and a spread sheet that someone supplied to me, it has cost me about @6.00 per 50 rounds for materials (primers, powder, bullets). I'm using brass that came from factory ammo plus some range brass. That $6.00 doesn't include equipment cost, of course. If you do shoot a lot, the cost of the equipment pays for itself in no time. I've started with a single stage Lee "C" press. Once I'm comfortable with reloading and I can justify the cost, I will buy a turret or other progressive type press.

I just ordered the components and dies I was missing to start reloading 9mm. I ordered from Cabellas since they were offering free shipping for orders of $150 or more. I didn't want to spend that much, but paying no freight for 1000 bullets (besides other things) was worth it.
