Right on Tower!!, or should I say "comrade"

It looks great in the picture. What year is it? So many questions, so few letters available! Matching numbers?

You going to need that mallet back? LOL

Can't wait to shoot in tandem with you and the Ruskie rifles!

its a '44 and yep..matching numbers. the stock is in awesome condition. a little pitting on the bayonet, but the bore is flawless...and I was told that this particular lot of rifles had the end of the muzzles warped so they COUNTERBORED them instead of crowning them AT A RUSSIAN ARESENAL...all the stamps look great! then there's the cheap importers serial number and name along the side of the barrel at the breach...can't remove it but dang it would be nice to just have a clean Russian rifle.

you'll see it at the shoot mike...you'll like it at the shoot!

I figured we could all get up on line with all the m44's and wake up the county!:D

Good deal Tower! Nice rifle there, maybe I will get one someday. I did pick up the Enfield but it don't look as good as that M44. I did get to shoot it at our shoot on the 21st. It was a blast & a good shooter.

o I've shot the M44 & yes I would rather shoot the Enfield I do like it pretty well. I was saying the finish is not quite like your M44.

You gonna bring that baby to Nashville?

I am going to bring it..yes! I'll change out the weapons I take with me when I head home for the July shoot. Since my wife shoots her rifle and carries 2 pistols with her to shoot on the range I will get to bring a rifle (quid pro quo, doctor lechter!!!) and my 2 pistols. Since I rarely shoot anything but my EMP anymore (hey boom, how are you liking yours these days?) I will get to bring a rifle. that rifle will either be a mauser or the M44.

Very very nice rifle there Tower! Yours gets to stay "orange" with that nice a finish.

What dealer did you go through and does he have any more? I may be turning into an old rifle collector instead of an AR enthusiast. Cheaper by far than building and getting ammo for the ARs!

Rightwinger, The Armory (they have a website) has them. Couple of caveats, though - they are rapidly running out of them, with no more available from importers, and the price jumped 20 bucks last week (reflecting that they are down to their last 4 or 5 cases of rifles). They have been selling about 2-3 cases a week. The rifles are in uniformly good condition - the only thing I would suggest is that you ask them to pick one that has not been 'force' matched (electropenciled SN's on the various parts). IIRC the buttstock, barrel (not the receiver) and magazine floorplate all carry the original SN, although in some cases they've been lined out and a new one electropenciled in.

Additionally, most of them have what looks like a stock repair on the toe of the buttstock. Rumor has it that they commonly break in that area, but actually this was commonly done in order to reduce the size of the blank needed to make the stock. A few do have one piece stocks, if this matters to you.

Advice to those interested in surplus rifles; The Swiss K31 is an extremely better deal. Much better design, craftsmanship, and quality. Absolutely no comparison. The ammo is more expensive, but overall you're looking at a choice between a well designed precision instrument and something made from 2x4's and old truck axles. I have a couple of them, and I'd really like to put another couple away as an investment. Twice the price of the MN44's, ten times the rifle. Your call.

Wideners', in Johnson City, has the K31's and ammo.

Nice rifle tower, but I agree I'd love to have an enfield

Thanks Jackdog, I agree! I'm SO kicking myself for not picking up an Ishpoor arms .308 Enfield when they were available.

*sigh*

Update: I just put a bid on an Ishpoor Enfield on gunbroker..here's hoping I get it!!
