I had two Malamutes years ago when my girls were growing up. Great dogs and NOBODY got near my girls when they were around.

She's actually a Husky but they look nearly identical. Huskies are just smaller. She only weighs 43lbs. 40 of that is hair. 😀

Our robot vacuum has been a huge help.

That's my avatar, bringing him home last summer, from a collie rescue in Northern Virginia. He is three now, and has the sense and attention span of a 4 month old.  He is not the best dog I have ever had, but he is my dog, nonetheless...

The rest of the stuff we can keep working on.

This is Pepper, our rescue merle colored Blue Heeler.  Super sweet, unless you're the Amazon guy, and very smart. Best girl dog ever.

I should have passed on this thread, causing irrational feelings of dog replacement.

We've been dog free for about 90 days after 17 years of companionship.

If you're counting "doglessness" in days, and time with your loving, faithful dogs in years, my guess is you've not owned your last dog.  And frankly, I hope that's true...

I say that from the standpoint of a guy that currently owns one of the most obnoxious dogs he's ever owned, but I suppose I must concede that even an "ungood" dog is still better than none at all, even accounting the urns on the bookcase and the little piles of dirt in the yard, that are all that remains of dogs past.

It's a process. Took us about a year and a half. If you want another dog, the right one will come along.
