indoor gun range

Help me feel comfortable going to a local indoor gun range that allows any type of rifle and shotgun be used in their indoor range. The reason I am asking is this range is only a mile from my house vs another range that doesn't allow this is about 10 miles away

I agree with Steelharp if you are talking about Sumner Gun. At least the times I've been there I haven't seen anybody doing anything unsafe. Friendly bunch of guys that run it IMO.

What are they allowing that you don't think they should not allow?  I would agree that indoor ranges should not allow flamethrowers or high explosives, but aside from that I think all should be good.  I would think they would know what their backstops are and are not rated for.

Previous to moving here, the indoor range I used allowed anything under 50 cal to be used.  Quite common to see Ar's etc being sighted in or function checked.  Never any problems, just loud as hell.

Guess I'm just old school. Indoor range are for handguns, outdoor range rifle, shotgun, or handgun I'll give them a try. Any problem with earmuffs rated with a nrr of 30 indoors with shotgun or high power rifle shots?

I would use a set of the disposable foam ear plugs as well as the muffs if anyone is shooting big stuff.

Thanks vero1 and steelharp, I think I'll stick with G&L for now until blueshield expands their Saturday hours.

So, I'm guessing this is a fear of rifle noise issue, and not a caliber/crazy person issue. I have been there many times when rifles are being shot, with just my foam throwaway earplugs. It's never been a problem. And, as a musician, I have ALWAYS protected my ears. They are my most valuable possession.

One option is to do what I do at Sumner. Double up on hearing protection. I put in ear plugs and then muffs. It really blocks out the noise.

Ditto on that. I shot my M44 indoors once and talk about loud!

Was almost more fun to watch than shoot because of the fireball. Here is my BIL shooting below:

Thanks guys yes it is a noise issue. I only have about 50% hearing left because of playing music in the 70's and early 80's so I can't afford any additional lose. Those with hearing lose understand the word we all say a lot "WHAT" ;)

I don't like indoor ranges period. Even with adequate hearing protection, hate the close quarters concussion, air quality, and general overall claustrophobic conditions.

Have several free passes to one that have remained in range bag for 3 years or so now.
