Let me start off by saying that i wasn't sure were to post this so i just put it here, and if its in the wrong place i apoligize.I don't post here much, just do alot of lurking, but i am really ashamed to say what im about to say,but i need to get this off my chest.

Back in December me and my Fiance was having some trouble and was argueing and we got a little loud. Before that i was spinning my tires in our gravel drive way,and when the law got there they seen the gravel had been spun and had thrown gravel all over the other car we have and they said that it was a violent act and took me to jail and charged me with domestic violence.Mind this i have never in my life even been pulled over for a ticket or anything, not even on my juviniele record.I went to court and the DA said he would postpone the court date for 6 months and if i didn't get in anymore trouble he would drop the charges, which is good.Well July 9 is 6 months and the court date and i have not been in any trouble of any kind,so the charges will be droped. My question is that once the charges are droped will this affect my ability to get a Concealed Carry Permit?I know the law says that it is illegal for a person to own a gun if he/she has been convicted of a Domestic Violence charge,But i will not be charged with it,it will be droped.I have been waiting for my 21 birthday so i can get my permit and July 1 is my 21 birthday,go figure. This one night has almosted screwed up my entire life of owning firearms of any kind.Im sorry for such a long post but i need to get this out there and i am really ashamed of it.Thanks for reading.

Just to make sure, I would also contact a local attorney, but I'd say you'll be fine. Unless you're convicted of the crime, all should be well. At the most, you may have to have something expunged from your record.

I know someone who was arrested for selling pot. There were actually 2 felonies involved. He served 2 years on probation. When he was done with his probation, he was able to get these felonies expunged from his record and now has his HCP.

Also be sure to ask to have your record expunged so even the complaint against you no longer appears. It may cost you a little money to the County Clerk's office to have this done, but it will be worth it.

Sumner county clerk is no charge. I don't know if you're in Sumner or not.

That sounds like experience speaking there, Tungsten!! :hat:

Not personal experience, but yes I've heard of some people who had to do this in a crunch later in order to get security clearances or better duty assignments.

We all do dumb things (intentionally or not) at one point or another. You're lucky you at least have the chance to wipe that slate clean. Hope everything turns out the way you want it.

Yes we all do DUMB stuff. I hope that you can wipe the slate clean and not have something like that hinder you all of your life.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I'll keep you guys updated and I have been talking to the DA and he said i may need to get it expunged so it doesn't cause any problems or delays in life and he said that he don't see why the judge won't expunge it since this is my first time ever being in trouble.

I would be there. Just in case. I would let the DA know that I was there, just in case.

+1

Without question, you should be there.

Domestic violence is a serious charge. Whatever you can do to show the court how serious and sorry you are for what you've done, you should do it. I'd be there, well dressed and groomed. A few tears wouldn't hurt either.:D

Anything you can do to help your cause should be done.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

I was also very frightened when I applied for my HCP I was arrested in Michigan for Domestic Ass. & resisting Arrest. at the time I was married & 17 years old (ex-husband). I was scared it would come back to haunt me......

I paid the 2000.00 dollar fine, 6 months probation, & I have never got in trouble again

Again, you're not the only one around here who's done something stupid in our past. You live and you learn.

It's nice to know that Allan hasn't pushed you to the iron skillet, yet.:D

Well it is all over with. The county DA's office's records show that the charges were dismissed July 9.!!! It feels lik a burden has been lifted off my shoulders:cheers:!! He said that it is eligible for expungment and he said it wouldn't cause me any problems about getting a permit for a concealed weapon.I thanked him alot for not charging me with it,he could of easily ruined my life with that charge,of not being able to purchase/own firearms.I have truly learned my leason (just walk away)!!Now i need to purchase me a new pistol to carry and find a class to enroll in..IM so happy!!
